I am sure this was posted and replied to in good spirited fun but there is a more serious and sinister side to them too.
These type of threads (not just here but on any platform) are quite risky to partake in because they form some of the simplest examples of “a beginner’s guide to social engineering”
In this example knowing the parent’s first three initials may actually enable us to reduce the possibilities down to a few options or even an exact match. When coupled to profile info such as location you could triangulate an much more accurate location by simply changing your own profile’s location to points surrounding the given location then noting the distances from you. Now, search the forums for similar types of posts and you have yet more to go to find a very short list on other platforms like fb, this then gives you access to friends & family lists and now you have surnames, d.o.b and so much more.
All fun until it gets real and messy
