Do You Prefer Words or Pictures ?

Not just on Fab but life in general.
Do you see and feel the world mostly in visual terms or do you 'write' thoughts in your head and express them best in text ?
And which works best in different contexts?

I love words and how they can evoke crazy imagery. I see the world in a bizarre collection of images created from words. When I try and explain what a sentence has just created I often sound absolutely barking. But it makes me chuckle and I love it. |

Words always pictures tell you nothing- words tell you sooo much more and not just those that are written, how they are written and who, especially in couples profiles and forum posts. Just because they write mr or mrs doesn't make it so you know who actually wrote them
Just importantly words that are not written.

I am very much into words. They can take you places you’ve only every dreamed of. Describe things that pictures never can.
They carry power, passion, desires, promises and yet they can destroy as well as create. |

As part of my extensive prep for this thread I discoverd:
The brain processes visual images 60,000 times faster than text
90% of information transmitted to the brain is visual.
And of course humans evolved our visual abilities long before we used words in a coherent way. |

Definitely words. I'd much rather read over watching television and I can't listen to audio books.
Even when it comes to erotica, I get far more aroused from reading erotic fiction over watching porn.

I need both in my world.
I'm very visual and picture routes and places in my head, but prefer a book to a film and love interesting words.
I remember/learn best by doing something and writing it down. I also love lists |

As someone on the autism spectrum words a very difficult for me, I much prefer pictures, that’s how I think, in pictures.
When I do the grocery shopping I don’t write a list, I just look at the fridge and cupboard then when I’m in the shop I consult the pictures in my head. |

I like that but couldn't agree with the first one- my memory is full of words, quotes, jokes, facts, poetry, etc. Much more so than images I think. |

I wonder if many people now do the same with their phones ? Photograph what they need to remember and use it as an external memory. |

Absolutely they're a form of language, and our earliest form of self expression as you say. The written word is a very recent development in human history. |

Words can take me off to another world, open my mind and let my imagination come to life where you can almost hear, see and sometimes feel what has been written.
Photos have their place though as can transport me to places (mostly nature) that I can only imagine visiting or capturing a set moment in time, which invokes fond memories.
So simply both  |

Very interesting, I am some degree of autistic and I always have the list. It's online and shared between my partner and I. Otherwise I can't remember as my head has pictures of my fridge being full and empty, I've seen it too often and have discarded the most recent picture! |

Both. One day I'm going to respond to a thread and not sit on the fence!
I'm visual in a lot of ways. I see days and months as colours and such. I can describe feelings best with metaphors as it takes ages if I try to articulate. But street and road names don't stick in my head, I have to visualise stuff such as that to know my way.
But I love language and words. Good question OP!! |

Words allow you to build your own pictures, as the mind fills in gaps that aren't written.
I find with some discworld films, I am disappointed. The characters and settings, aren't as good as the the pictures I formed, by reading the books. |

I prefer words. They can evoke far more emotion than most pictures. This is funny because I’m actually a photographer.

I imagine this is common with fantasy and sci fi literature, the imagination of a great writer surpasses any special effect. |
