I ate (part of) one in disgrace
In Dublin for a couple of days, I treated my mate to champagne afternoon tea at The Shelbourne
It's one of those fancy hotels with liveried doormen and starched white egyptian cotton table cloths
It was an altogether very refined affair until, somehow, and to this day neither of us know how, my mate managed to drag the table cloth 3/4 off the table; bottles, glasses, cups, tea pots, plates, cake stands... the fkin lot went |

In a ball gown because that's how we roll in N. Devon |
"I visited Devon recently and converted
I knew I liked you
Woman, you can't get a good spread if you do it the wrong way round. "
Oh but you can! Cream spreads like butter, and you don't spread the jam. You dollop it.
And then you pop a dollop of cream on top if you're feeling decadent. |

"Cream first then jam - the right way
If I wasn’t having cream I’d do butter then jam
Why would you not have cream though?!"
My dad used to make them and we always just had butter and jam. How’s and introduced me to cream tea |

I've never given it any thought to be honest. I've had a cream tea at The Ritz, and various other places over the years, and never once paid that much attention to the placement of jam and cream. Didn't even know there was such a thing ! Fancy that ! |

I've always loved the accent. Long before I moved here. It's so comforting. |

People keep telling me I sound West Country despite my first 30 years being a Londoner.... well. Either than or they ask if I'm an Aussie |
