Hoping someone can help me on here (fab usually does)
I want to run an electric cable down to the front of my garden to power lights. The electrician I have has suggested using the virgin media duct (green duct) that already is in the ground.
I’m abit concerned about the engineer cutting into by mistake as we are not currently with Virgin but we are switching when we move house. Ive checked the duct and there is a black wire in there.
I know a little bit about utility companies use different colours to indict there wiring/pipes am just concerned that virgin might make us remove it is a cost to ourselves. Is this my electrician being lazy???? |

That sounds like. The virgin fibre optic cable. Which is for tv, broadband. |

You shouldn’t share the same duct as telecoms cables. |

No you can't do that and a reputable electrician would not suggest it.
The media cable carries a very low voltage of electricity.
The lighting cables you require will carry a much higher more dangerous Voltage.
That would be very dangerous.
You need a separate sleeve.
You need a RED sleeve for a your lighting cable
Oh and a NEW electrician.

It really needs to be SWA cable also for mechanical protection or clip it along a wall to the front if permitted. A qualified electrician would point you in the right direction, not this cowboy. |
