Which song stops you in your tracks?

You'll never walk alone. I'm not a Liverpool fan but my dad was and anytime I hear it I can hear his over zealous singing along to it.
The gambler. It was my best friend's favourite song and I'm always taken back to the many times we d*unkenly sang it at karaoke |

Warrior Demi Lavato - the lyrics cut deep, could have been written for me.
Happy wise - World of our own Westlife, so many happy memories with this song. |

Some will think it’s corny but Ed Sheeran’s Perfect. The 1st time we heard it T was in isolation waiting for his stem cell transplant. He said this would be a lovely 1st dance song. 2y & 9m later we did marry. But didn’t have it as our 1st dance….
Not a song but Highland Cathedral gets me. I was so proud hearing my son play it on drum in his parade uniform with Army Cadets.

"Nothing particularly cool or worthy of mention, but there are a couple that can be quite paralysing "
Why do they have to be cool and why are they not worthy of mention? Speak now Silent Bob. Let's hear them. |

Wow so many meaningful songs - meaningful to that person for a particular reason. Makes me sad to think that people in Afghanistan are going to be deprived of music.
I honestly could not imagine a life without music. It carries, conveys, evokes so many emotions. It soothes, heals and allows to bring closure to others. |

Chris Rea - Curse of the Traveller. It’s a poem to me as much of a song and each lyric has meaning in my life.
Another vote for The Communards - For a Friend, if you’ve seen the film ‘Pride’, the main character was Jimmy’s friend and when he died they wrote it for him. |

There are loads of songs that bring back memories.
Two that always make me stop dead in my tracks are Paper cup by Heather Nova and The Sundays version of wild horses.
Mr CC had an amazing collection of mix tapes in his old fiat panda when we first met, but these two tracks immediately take me back. |

"Happy or sad, memory or hope for the future... which song has that effect on you?
And if you want to share... why is it so? "
It would have to be a Whitney Houston song. It's hard to choose a favourite among so many great tracks, but "The Greatest Love Of All" is one of the best, most powerful songs ever written about self-preservation, dignity. Its universal message crosses all boundaries and instills one with the hope that it's not too late to better ourselves. Since it's impossible in this world we live in to empathise with others, we can always empathise with ourselves. It's an important message, crucial really. And it's beautifully stated on the album. |

Unforgettable Nat king Cole. Played at my grandads funeral, gets me every time.
Ed Sheeran - photograph and Dancing in the sky - Samantha Harvey - played recently at young family members funeral, both break my heart
JCB song - nizlopi. Stops me in my tracks as it was played at husbands funeral. For the kids and their dad
Can make me feel sad but also warms my heart at the same time |

"Brothers in arms - dire straits My no one! Always has been.
Shine downs version of simple man is another I listen to all the way through "
I have never ever tired of Brothers in Arms, the song is beautiful, the music is haunting and it reminds me of brave people (Armed Forces) we used to know who are no longer with us. |

This one always makes me sit and think "
I just remembered where I heard this first - at an Irish Castle medieval banquet, sung by the most amazing Irish vocalist.
Mark Knoepfler's version is a hauntingly beautiful piece. Thank you for sharing. |

"N-Trance - set you free (2001 Rob Searle mix) it takes me back many years to shenanigans with friends and parties that went on too long.
This too - a Scouse Anthem back in the day"
Back in the day a friend who looks the spit of the lady from N-Trance wanted to get a limo to recreate the video. Ah the stupidity of youth |

Stand up on a skate board looking at the sky at day light watching the rain and for few seconds see the rain in slow motion , is the best way i can describe this moment it was magical , i was probably 11 years old |

My problem is that when somebody puts a suggestion in, I have to listen to it. That's why I fail miserably at getting my chores done.
I just listened to it - yes, beautiful! Thanks for sharing. |

Meatloaf - Paradise By The Dashboard Light...
Stop right there
I gotta know right now
Before we go any further
Do you love me?
Will you love me forever?
Do you need me?
Will you never leave me?
Will you make me so happy
For the rest of my life?
Will you take me away
Will you make me your wife?

They're not an easy watch, ditto with the one about the young man and the female camp guard I think it's the reader?
Sort of feel we owe it to the victims to ensure following generations see them too..? |

There's a song from a handful of years back that I couldn't listen to me because of the memories.
Then it kept getting played in my gym class and it kind of worked like desensitization therapy!
I can just about listen to it and give a wry smile now.

As for Carlos Varela, he is not very well known here but perhaps should be?
I also love Carlos Santana - always have done.
Thank you everybody who posted - I love these threads when people can bring their personal favourites. For most, they carry a particular memory, often bitter sweet but still kind of a bit happy in a way? |

"Buddy Holly, True love ways "
Definitely thumbs up!
Sometimes it is the simplicity of the melody - other times the lyrics, and then sometimes it is both harmonising with the voice of the singer.
What about "Beautiful tonight" Eric Clapton? |

Spanish is such a beautiful language. I found I listened to "una palabra" earlier and now I am listen to ALL of his songs.... addictive. |
