Just read a thread mentioned peanut allergies.
You didn’t hear of it when I was younger
Now almost every airplane that I get on to go or come home, they announce that some selfish sod had just decided to state they have a peanut allergy.
It twists my melon…spoils my trip…
Topped off with a screaming feral child…
Am I seriously selfish or are they?? |

What does that mean, can they not serve peanuts then?
Also, I never flew until my child was old enough to behave on a plane. Dick kids are the product of dick parents. |

When you hear of cases like Pret where two people died as a result of peanut contamination (not actually even a peanut sandwich) it is really not asking too much to remove a known and common allergen from enclosed spaces.
When you have somebody in your family who is at risk, you can be forgiven for becoming rather angry at suggestions that this might spoil somebody else's enjoyment.
The selfish person is not the allergy sufferer here - I am sorry if my tone offends but this one is very close to my heart and I am shocked people still think that allergy sufferers suddenly "decide" they have an allergy. |

I’m allergic to screaming kids, but when I mention it they just roll their eyes at me… they don’t remove them… surely I have rights to a peaceful flight as much as the next person?
But nut allergies are serious, not just a PITA, even kissing someone who has eaten them can cause an anaphylactic reaction which kill quicker than breath play unless you can find and stab them with their epi pen |

I'm convinced the reason nut allergies are considered "new" is because throughout history people with serious allergies simply died "unexplained" deaths and didn't get to pass their genes on.
However much of a pain it is I'd not wish death on anyone. |

I'm one of those selfish people with a severe nut and peanut allergy, I don't mind if a few see me as selfish because they don't get to eat some nuts for a few hours. I get to live so that's a win for me. |

I’ve heard of cases where some kids who had severe peanut allergy had to go to the hospital because there’s only one ventilation system on airplanes so … as it’s recycled air u can imagine what happened when someone opened a bag of peanut even if they were distant x

Exactly - people who are fortunate enough not to have to worry about allergies, often do not realise that the slightest cross-contamination can cause a reaction which is potentially fatal if there is no adrenaline jab (=epipen) available.
Furthermore, even an epipen can at times not save a patient. It really is that serious |

My son is a nut allegy sufferer. Not much fun i can tell the opp to see this toung and throat swell up that you have to plunge your fingers into his mouth just to keep his airways open. That i can tell him. What he doesnt realise is if there is an insident in the air then the air line must divert to the nearest airport for medical help. And that could keep the plane on the ground for hrs till a slot can be found. Just so some selfish person wants to eat nuts. Its not the allergy sufferer thats selfish its the person that wants to eat them. Bit like dog owners not picking up there dogs poo. Always the innocent person stands in it. |

I’m not into any kind of breath play, however I do have asthma and I know what it’s like not to be able to breathe properly now apply that to someone with such a serious allergy that causes anaphylaxis, your entire throat swells and closes up making it impossible to breathe, not to mention your lips swell. My mums lips swelled one whilst on holiday in France, she was allergic to mussels and it may have been a rogue mussel in her prawn dish, or maybe a prawn fell into a mussel dish…. That was enough to make her lips swell…
Nut allergies are I believe the worst allergy you can have as you don’t have to actually eat the thing to be reactive to it. |

"There was 1 person in our office that had a peanut allergy and everyone was told not to bring any nuts in. "
I have seen schools implementing it relating to lunch boxes which to me makes sense. |
