I've read mixed reviews of hostels, so get on the review sites to find one, or a cheaper hotel, that will give you a secure restful night's sleep before your interview. I've stayed in hostels abroad, but London, overall is way too expensive in my opinion, for all accom.
Consider staying a little further from where your interview's held at, if that helps reduce your costs too, unless your interview is first thing etc.
Trivago helps you compare hotel costs between different internet sites selling rooms at the same place - don't know if they do hostels.
Also, if you're a member of any customer loyalty scheme, check to see if you've any points that could be converted to rooms, such as Tesco clubcard points etc, who did do Marriott and other accom, I think. You may be able to get a 'free' night. Also, ask your employer if they'd reimburse some expenses.
Good luck! |

"Have you tried booking.com? I usually get great deals on there "
If you do use the hotel comparison sites don't forget to check out the hotel's own website too - it doesn't happen often, but sometimes it can be cheaper to book direct.
Also, if you go for a chain hotel sign up for their loyalty programme - you often get perks like early check in (which I realise you won't use this time) late check out, money off in house services (restaurant and bar), breakfast included for the same price as room only and points towards free stays. |

You have time to look at cheap deals with Travelodge where you need to book 21 days in advance to get a big discount. Occasionally you can get a good deal round King's Cross.
It depends how much you want to spend and roughly where your interview is to avoid lots of travel.
For Hostels the central London YHA has just been refubished and there is a Generator Hotel near Russell Sq, but if there are school groups in either, you may get no sleep and find there's no hot water when you need it. |

Just remembered I did stay at the St Pancras YHA - prompted by the poster above - a few years ago. It's not cheap, at over £60, but is 5 mins walk from Euston. This would give you your own room, rather than a shared dorm room.
The key thing is the location of your interview, as you can likely still travel from Euston at that time of the night. |

Before I moved down this way I used hostels occasionally when I was in London, cheap and convenient but not a great plan the night before an interview.
Have you considered staying in a town somewhere near to London such as on the M25 belt? Will potentially be much cheaper for a hotel and only 20-30 minutes in to Central London on a fast train? |

I work in the hotel industry and can advise as follows.
You are cutting it fine with a budget requirement of around £50; that might work outside of London, but in London itself, that limits you.
However, there is scope for finding something. Although you should consider sites such as Laterooms etc., it can pay to contact hotels direct. This is because these sites charge hotels a commission (often a necessary evil for hoteliers) but if hotel can save up to 10% commission payments and accept a direct booking, they will take that option.
London hotels have suffered badly in the past two months as they tried to "cash-in" with the Olympics, and trade just stayed away, such that hotels are slashing rates and you might get a better deal with some of the big chains.
It would help if you could consider maybe taking a hotel in the Outer London suburbs from which you could travel; into your interview the next day.
Plus, as my hotel has discovered to oiur benifit in the past few weeks, try sites such as Travel Zoo, and Living Social. Their deals aren't for everyone but they are worth taking a look - you never know?
If you want, PM me privately if you want and I'll see what else I can offer, advice wise. |
