When I win it's because I'm great, when I lose its because the world is against me. Imo this attitude is fairly prevalent every where (believe it's a well known bias) and comes out in fab vioa thsoe posts. |

Like the worst cold you've ever had. The fever was the worst bit, laboured breathing. I can see how it would be pretty bloody dangerous if you were frail or weak. Two days of crisis amd now just headache, weak, tired and can't smell a thing.
I waved bleach under my nose this morning. Made me sneeze. Couldn't smell anything tho.
That's what it feels like from here anyway.

We are all judgemental, how would we survive otherwise. Also there's no such thing as objectivity. EVERYTHING is subjective. Except maybe mathematical proofs. I think.

Ah but would you have felt worse if you hadn't? Does helping others out of a perceived sense of altruism enable you to believe you are a good person? Does it help you maintain a positive view of yourself even if the act itself dies nothing for you?
Evolution doesn't have a purpose or a design, altruism is a trait that in some circumstances conveys an evolutionary advantage so it is a trait that is likely to be passed on and become more developed. While on the whole it is advantageous for the organism to behave altruistically (is that a word?)
there will always be times when it is not. That doesn't mean that your tendancy to altruistic behaviour isn't coded in your genes precisely because on average it is a personality trait that has a higher chance of being advantageous.

I'm uncertain that there is true altruism. Like the worst cold you've ever had. The fever was the worst bit, laboured breathing. I can see how it would be pretty bloody dangerous if you were frail or weak. Two days of crisis amd now just headache, weak, tired and can't smell a thing.
I waved bleach under my nose this morning. Made me sneeze. Couldn't smell anything tho.
