I understand what you are saying OP but it’s statements like this that keeps the gender bias going.
We shouldn’t have to point out things like this that seem out the the ‘normal’ of stereotypes. If you truly felt the way you talk about equality then you shouldn’t even think this way.
It’s like say they are strong for a girl etc. |

It is unusual to see women doing certain jobs, there are some jobs it's unusual to see a man doing. I can't see there's harm in commenting on it.
When we had our children it was unheard of to see a male midwife for instance. I'll be honest I would always prefer a woman. |

Normal is a curve. In terms of strength men are, *on average* physically stronger than women.
What is it we really mean when we talk about equality? |

Normal is a curve. In terms of strength men are, *on average* physically stronger than women.
What is it we really mean when we talk about equality?"

It is equality though. In as much as very few jobs are open only to one sex which wasn't the case previously |

I agree with you, I had a male do my sweep when I was a week overdue with my second. My preference would have been a female, same as a nurse doing my smear test.
Bins though I don't care who collects them. I mean I put them out on the street so I presume most other women could pick them up too. |

So you can’t point out an unusual observation now, I haven’t seen a woman on the bins before, so if I did see a lady emptying my bins it would be note worthy. I see more and more women driving HGVs, it used to be big deal when you saw a woman driving a lorry cause it was a rare occurrence, now less so. Let’s not make it into something it’s not. |

Like if I hired a plumber and a girl turned up and I said I’d prefer a guy. Why is that? Because I think a woman couldn’t handle the job?
I understand woman might prefer a female doctor because they feel more comfortable, but again, you’ve gotta ask why? Because your questioning a guys professionalism? Or his ability? Despite the fact he’s clearly passed all the required steps to become qualified, same as any woman |

On the subject of midwives, the nicest antenatal appointment I had with my last pregnancy was with a male midwife. I would quite happily have had him supervising the birth, but alas no. I had a female obstetrician (horrendous woman) and several female midwives. The ones who actually delivered my daughter were fine but the ones on the antenatal ward were rude, dismissive and incapable of understanding that I couldn't stand up or walk. I don't know if their gender had anything to do with their lack of empathy, but I'd quite happily have traded them for a bunch of competent blokes.
As for my bins, I couldn't give a flying fig who empties them, so long as they don't leave the bins at the other end of the street |

The consultant who swept my membranes was professional and knew what he was doing. Although he was a bit rougher and it was less comfortable than the next one by the midwife. This may have been due to a difference in hand size though. |

The point I was trying to make is that while they are unusual observations, there isn’t true equality until they become just observations.
I said at the beginning I understand what the OP was saying but we have a long way to go before true equality is normal |

I preferred a woman midwife simply because I felt at some level that I wanted to be surrounded by women with the exception of my partner. It had nothing to do with ability bor qualification. |

Actually I am comfortable with male or female doctors in any situation. I have encountered male doctors and nurses who had more genuine empathy and less of a patronising attitude when I had my kids. But then that is just one person's experience. Anyway either is fine by me. |

We will never have male Vs female boxing or rugby or any other physical sport. Male househusbans get a look of surprise when they say they are a stay at home dad. I've never seen a woman work in trades on a building site and I'm sure if I ever do see that I will do a double take and think "huh, that's unusual". |

The point being made was whether it was ok to strike back, in self defense, if a woman hits a man first.
It's not fine for anyone to smack anyone else, but this is not how people view the situation. The man can't fight back regardless of how aggressive the woman is.

The partner of a man I did groundwork for a few years ago worked along with us. Tbf nobody made any remarks and well dare they, one of the best ground groundworkers I've met. |

Disregarding that we should not smack people in the first place, in a strange way is it being sexist to day that a man should never smack a woman. I think if a man tried to smack Jade Jones, the double Olympic martial arts champion, he would soon end up on the seat of his pants... |
