The timeless Home and Colonial, I noticed the other day that there's still one in Porthcawl.
Also garages with petrol pumps directly on the side of the road. There's still one of those in the village of Llysworney near Cowbridge. |

Eastbourne used to have a department store called Bobby's. It was enormous. They had a restaurant with a cat walk, my mum used to take me there and we'd watch the models while having tea. |

Great minds think alike! It was the only place at the time in our locality where you could get Edam cheese, which was a treat when my dad had a pay slip with overtime on it. I will never forget when I was a little boy, a beautiful blonde lady dressed in Dutch outfit in the Home and Colonial promoting Edam cheese taking a shine to me, and feeding me lots of taster samples. I never did get round to sampling an equally gorgeous Dutch lady though after I became a big boy. |

I wonder if anyone is old enough to remember, The Co-op Permanent Building Society. It's even before my time. It later became Nationwide as we know it today. I only found out about it as my first job was a trainee manager with Nationwide, and the odd Co-op Permanent Building Society pass book got unearthed as people were clearing out the home of a deceased relative. |
