Evening all, just got back from the weekly football and post match social pub session with friends.. it’s usually at this point that my legs begin to seize up and it becomes hard to sleep so this nocturnal thread seems just the relaxing ticket to ease me in to the night..
Like snooker on the tele.

We'd like it to be more popular - we need more players! We do have very good men's and women's teams though, both have good shouts for medals at the Paras. I'd like to try wheelchair tennis, but the local tennis club sent back a flat "no" when I asked if I could come and play

I think age is creeping up on me, in fact I know it is, ha..
I used to play professionally so it’s something that’s still enjoyable especially so now amongst friends. It’s quite an inclusive group for people new to the area to help them socialise. So it’s a lovely space.
Am I looking forward to the season… my team is generally rubbish so it’s with an annual trepidation.. how about you? |

This might seem an obvious answer but can able bodied people take part? as in being in a wheelchair or is there classifications on disability. I would probably love to try it out.

"Good evening one and all! Not long back from wheelchair basketball. Good sesh tonight. Scored a couple of outside shots (yay) but no dilly-dallying with FWB tonight (boo). It looks like actual competitive games are going to happen from September, very exciting stuff!
Is it still as popular as it was a few years ago, I seem to remember we had a good GB team. Really enjoyed watching it, similarly to wheelchair tennis.
We'd like it to be more popular - we need more players! We do have very good men's and women's teams though, both have good shouts for medals at the Paras. I'd like to try wheelchair tennis, but the local tennis club sent back a flat "no" when I asked if I could come and play
I'd like to try wheelchair rugby too
This might seem an obvious answer but can able bodied people take part? as in being in a wheelchair or is there classifications on disability. I would probably love to try it out.

Yep, ABs can play but my team could really do with some low pointers! Classification is on a 5pt system. 5 is fully AB. Then you kinda lose half a point for each defective bit. I'm a 4.5pt, single leg impaired person. FWB is also 4.5pt below the knee amputee. The lowest is 1pt, for people with both upper and lower limbs impaired, plus trunk instability.
You can play a max number of points on court at once, over 5 players. In mixed teams (as mine is), you get girlie points for women, up to 2pts per team. So that makes me a 3.5pt, kinda. U18s are 1pt off too.
I'd be keen to find somewhere to give tennis a bash (literally) |

Nah it's dead straightforward. A bit like handicaps in golf. Basically a non disabled person is worth 5pts, then knock half a point off for every region of the body that's knackered, until you get to 1 (greatest impairment). Take lady points off in a mixed team (or kiddie points for U18) et voila! |

Most clubs have club chairs to borrow. Dribbling the ball and pushing is an acquired skill |
