Ok, so the basic situation went down as follows.
A delivery I'm waiting on has just arrived so I'm standing at the shop door. A semi-regular customer and his kid have just left the Pemier next door happily chomping on Doritos and Pringles. They stop to chat and once the delivery is put on my counter the kid starts asking what I use each ingredient for. I get to the MSG and the Dad goes ballistic.
He is literally going off at me for using something he has just been shovelling into his face! When I told him such he grabs the packet and reads the ingredients, then claims "it says nothing about that poison you're using". Directly after trying and failing to pronounce monosodium glutamate. |

"I have an allergy to MSG..! "
Most people who have reactions to MSG are sodium intolerant. If you can stomach almost any hard cheese, or dried/semi dried tomato the glutamate component is not the issue. If you get the same reaction from the tomatoes, you're going to find you're most likely intolerant to the Nightshade family. Glutamates seem to have some role in exacerbating sensitivity to alkaloids in those, however there is no clear evidence why. So few people are sensitive to Nightshade. |

"The term for this is "Agnorant" where a person is ignorant about a subject but also extremely arrogant in their opinion. "
I like that. Agnorant. I’ll remember that
My favourite thing for situations like this is to tell them of the dangers of Dihydrogen Monoxide. Tell them it is everywhere and yet is so dangerous that it can cause death if inhaled. See if they work out it is H2O… |

"Its lack of education around ingredients, they hear of things and jump to conclusions from hearing little snippets of information. "
Probably as he gets all his information from youtube, facebook or some other certified source of social media. |
