Reports that a conman who once romanced then stole a ladies savings has been released. Has anyone on here suffered a similar fate ?

"they are low life people conning people "

Yes they are, however most of the programmes i've seen about this and the ONE woman I know personally lead me to believe that an awful lot of the victims need protecting from themselves.

Loads of romance scams.

I've mentioned it before a friend of our family has been systematically fleeced of her life savings and home over the years by a Cypriot waiter half her age.

This really. Whilst it is a sad thing to happen and the people doing it can have pretty low moral standards - nobody steals the money, they ask (or sometimes don't even need to ask) and it's given, right?

Often people know what's happening but they still want to feel loved. People rarely complain about hookers selling love to old men now do they?

Because the men know that it's a transactional arrangement. The men and women who are taken in by romance fraud genuinely believe at the start that they are loved.

I do look on aghast that people can be so naive but loneliness and a desire to be loved are able to convince a person to believe anything. Even that s young, fit and very attractive American service man can fall in love with a vet ordinary grandmother of 66.

I think a lot of women know though, they just don't want to admit it to themselves, a bit like say if a womans partner is having an affair and they know but they don't mention it because they love them and still want them. I think all of life is a transaction if you look at it from a certain angle x

I choose not to look at life from the transaction angle.

Yeah these women and men usually do realise in the end.

My mother has been scammed twice (not romance) in an identical way. After I'd dealt with it and reported it to the police she STILL had doubts and asked me "what if he was genuine and we've got him in trouble?".

I don't know what makes people's brains work this way.

It was in the news today...I suppose every inmate is entitled to early release if they pass the parole board
