I read somewhere when we become adults people stop asking what your favourite dinosaur is, cause nobody gives a shit, when you’re a kid they ask all the time, but everybody’s got one, mine is the brontèsaurus probably cause it’s the most literary of all the dinosaurs and also one of the biggest. |

Either a t-rex, because damn those things at cool! Or a stegosaurus because the spiked bit at the end of its tail is called a thogamizer!
Or a fun fact; brontosaurus Neve existed! Someone put a brachiosaurus head on a diplococcus body and no one noticed for 75 years... And this is why you don't let an autistic person talk about dinosaurs lol! |

The velociraptors in Jurassic park always irritated me. More like a Deinonychus in size. Velociraptor was much smaller. Although you could blame that on genetic engineering for the film. |

Slag is the Triceratops. The Stegosaurus is Snarl. Sludge is the Brontosaurus (and yes, those are a thing again), and Swoop is a Pteranodon, which is a pterosaur rather than a dinosaur. |

I currently work several times a week telling people about the Tyrannosaurus rex... living the dream with that
The velociraptors in Jurassic park always irritated me. More like a Deinonychus in size. Velociraptor was much smaller. Although you could blame that on genetic engineering for the film. I upset children daily at my volunteering when I explain this. "
This is correct. The creatures in Jurassic Park are pretty clearly Deinonychus, but interestingly, Utahraptor is that sort of size as well... but wasn't identified until after Jurassic Park was written.
Velociraptor was more like the size of a chicken. Hah. |

Not a dinosaur either, I'm sorry. Not even closely related. Humans are more closely related to dinosaurs than sharks are! Are you thinking of Megalosaurus, perhaps? |

I personally have always identified with the giant sauropods. Diplodocus is the one everyone remembers from when we were kids, but now we know about even huger ones like Argentinosaurus. They must have been truly spectacular to see. |

This might be bollocks, but I saw it on the interweb. "
No it’s true.
The first dinosaurs were c350 million years ago - the last c65 million years ago. Ergo the last dinosaurs were far closer to us in timescale than they were to the first.
I loved the series ‘walking with Dinosaurs’ - might have to find it on’t dodgy fire stick and re watch it.
I think my favourite is the diplodocus - a very gentle giant! ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

"T-Rex. Specifically the one from the first Jurassic Park."
99% sure that the T. rex in all the films is the same one. There’s a male in the second film too though. It’s the same animatronic all the way through. Pretty sure I read that about Jurassic world |

This really fascinates me. We are so unable to appreciate time on these scales. The world has existed 200 times longer since the last dinosaurs than it has with homo sapiens - over 5000 times longer since we started building cities and 20,000 times longer than we've been writing (or at least since the earliest writing we have found).
All this just puts the 65 million years since they became extinct into perspective. Trying to imagine the 290 million years they were around is mind boggling. During that time the earth orbited all the way around the milky way - we are roughly a third of the way around the second such orbit since dinosaurs appeared - the entire galaxy has spun since they appeared on earth.

Since the last dinosaur thread maxed out, I'm resurrecting this one too. There is clearly interest in this topic, and let's face it – it's more interesting than a lot of the stuff that gets discussed on here. |
