Some say society would function ok without this institution. Do you agree or disagree. I find it hard to imagine a stable society without family. Anyone else have opinions.

.

Despite my daughter I am really not close to my family, I think to some people it means a lot more than to others.

I'm not sure society would exist without family unless we were call taken from our parents at birth and raised in state or corporate run institutions.

Loads of families are dysfunctional, my own included which I suppose is partially what makes society what it is. I don't think it would be any better if the state or various corporate bodies were fully responsible

I have zero family. I am much happier now than I was when I did have one. If someone waved a magic wand and families weren't a thing any more, it wouldn't affect my life in the slightest.

Thanks. I'm not sure i understand the concept and how it would be practical. But its interesting to learn how widely opinions can differ person to person.

I'm definitely less stressed living alone compared to living in the family unit.

I don't think society would function very well without families. I'm not sure I fully understand the question anyway.

I cut pretty much all of my family off a few months ago, it was long overdue. I'm much happier for doing so.

But what if your family is an absolute delight? How would it make the world a better place to not have them in your life? Good family are everything! And if anything, a good support system, family you can rely on and a stable environment improves your quality of life.

I don't see how it could ever happen anyway! It would never happen now.

"Blood make you relative

I think this should be read in a cockney accent, à la Phil Mitchell

I think we have created a society where you no longer depend on family and community and instead put it on the state to solve everything.

Families can be hard work and it’s often easier these days to go alone

Interesting question but I haven't read any replies im running short on time.

You think society functions well now ?

One man one woman two kids is a modern family construction.

Other societies have different formations.

Personally - if you are human , you are my family.

Don't read too much into that last line.

Family prob means something diff to me than to you ......... I won't be getting you a Christmas present. Okay?

Dunno. Even though I occasionally feel a bit of a misanthrope, having the solidity and unthinking(mods won't let me use 'unconsc!@us' for some reason?!?) 'safety' of a family you know are always supportive cuts out a lot of existential angst in this life, and God knows it can be hard.

Not having that knowledge you are unconditionally loved (I'm talking about my parents as opposed to from other members) from at least someone throughout a good part of your life would be devastating. I K ow people who were neglected or abused by their parents and it has had a major negative effect on how they think/behave around close people forrl the rest of their lives(think PTSD, essentially).

I think they're vital, if you're lucky enough to have them and trust/cherish them.

Yeah i cant agree either, there are bad eggs in all parts of the world, just a fact. The nuclear famlee is the oldest of todays famlee types imo.
