Apparently jelly fish can still sting you long after they are dead.. seen lots on the beaches washed up but not easy to tell if they are alive or dead. They don't move much. My advice to toursists. Stay well clear of jellyfish if alive or dead |

The big barrel jellyfish barely sting at all. Nor the common moon jellyfish. I've seen people handling them on the beach. Not that I recommend it
The mauve/purple do sting, as I know from personal experience. Not too bad in my case but can cause allergic reactions. |

"Did you see the picture of the man swimming with 10,000 of them in Donegal a few weeks back "
Taking photos of the purple jellyfish is how I got stung! Thankfully only on my leg. The current made one drift right at me. |

No doubt someone out there has a fetish about dangling a jellyfish onto their balls to feel the sting and get turned on by it
Not one I would try -that’s for sure! |

"Research is being done on potential using them as food. That's 1 of the good things about singing nettles, they taste great. Not after abeing pissed on. You first Tom? "
Ooooh I do love nettle soup and nettle tea, obviously without wee.
Just wondering though Tom, I’m guessing you avoid going to the seaside these days, what with all those nasty buggers out to get you but what about when you were a child? Did you ever have a fun day at the beach without getting attacked? |

My local Chinese grocery shop sells dried jellyfish. I assume it's edible. |

Can a dead tourist still get stung though? |

Wear some good old fashioned bathing suits Tom - we look forward to your pics . The stings will probably not be able to penetrate thick fabric
Wash with sea water, not fresh water, which can exacerbate the stings release. Urine is uncertain to help, as with vinegar, where the evidence is patchy.
Anaphylaxis can be delayed by some weeks and the dead tentacles can sting for a couple of weeks Swim with your mouth closed
Antihistamines and NSAIDs like ibuprofen can help to relieve symptoms
Swim in cooler waters. Wear foot coverings, to avoid stepping on dead parts that could sting you.
Swim soon, as global heating could bring more of the fatal fish to our waters. |

"Shops selling dried jellyfish.
What do they do with the stuff?
Jellyfish soup?
Mind boggles..
Or jellyfish and custard ?"
Jellyfish may be an increasingly important source of nutrition, with drives to reduce our dependence on currently farmed livestock. Invest in jellyfish now! |

"Time on your hands Tom?
They can be turned into chips, have a jellyfish salad or delicious with sesame "
Not for me I am afraid. I do consider myself an adventurous eater but draw the line at jellyfish. |

I ate a whole baby octopus at a ramen restaurant last week. I've eaten rattlesnake, alligator, kangaroo, squid.... not jellyfish yet but I see no reason not to if it's safe and cooked in an appropriate dish. |

"I was stung on the arm in Aus, nasty little shits! "
And one difference between a jellyfish attack and a shark attack. The jellyfish just stings whatever gets in it's way and is like hopes to get a meal. It's totally indiscriminate. A shark on the other hand .... You fill in the blanks |

"Urine is the best cure for a jellyfish sting.
Urban myth, best cure is hot shower on effected area, and pee is currently believed to make it worse. " oh no so my excuse for WS has gone out of the window. |
