Yet.. Beyond swapping a few light bulbs over (which are a gimmick anyway) does anybody give enough of a hoot to actually make different choices?

On a planetary eco system based on currents & temperatures has this slight shift caused a ongoing realignment to a new planetary environment? |

We should all give a fuck, but it shouldn't be down to the individual. Especially when I read that only a handful of companies are responsible for 2/3rds of the world's emissions.
But the companies aren't gonna change because you know, profits so they market it to the individual because they think it's easier to get 1 person to change as opposed to a multi-billion pound company. |

People generally do as they are told by governments and corporations , they decide what we like, don’t like, what we buy and what don’t buy. The ozone layer used to have a big hole in it and we used to put lead in petrol, burn coal in houses, use lots of plastic bags and eat a bit more sugar and beef than we now do , those in charge will fix it when becomes a big problem and we’ll just do as we are told until then , that’s all we can really do  |

Lots do give a fuck put powerless to effect any real change, we can only do our bit. It is the big giants that need to make the change to make a difference. Until it is commercially viable to make the changes needed.
Sadly it is about the mighty dollar and those that only care about the here and now fuck tomorrow as it will be somebody else's problem.
We gave them the power and our children/grand children will be paying the price. |

I do wonder if we spent our money more wisely, more locally on products and goods and shopping... Which would cost more and restrict choices initially, if it would start to erode the power base of the super companies who are doing so much damage. Nothing worth having comes for free though. |

We each have to do our bit. But we are selfish creatures. Scariest indication I saw this year was my tomato and pepper plants. Tons of blossoms, very very few insects around pollinating. I know I can hand pollinate my plants with a feather, but how do farmers with huge fields do that. What will happen to our food supply? Remember when you were younger and a drive in the car resulted in a windscreen plastered with dead insects? Not anymore. The planet is dying.

Climate change is inevitable, it's a natural event and there have been five previous ice ages that we know about. We are overdue for the next. I dare say human activities may usher on the next one to some extent, but it's coming anyway. Nature's very own reset button. |

I don’t deny there are changes and humans may be having an impact. But I would say when you look at how much had been spent worldwide in the last 18 months due to covid you can see what governments spend in a real emergency. They don’t just tax flights a bit more and out up fuel duty. |

I think it's important to remember that we're actually part of nature and nature isn't a sentient being. What's happening now started with the first human and progressed. To stop it requires us to control nature and that isn't possible long term. |

OK, so I'm old enough to remember when you returned your empty bottles to the shop. Veg and fruit were not bound in plastic like a gimp at a fetish club and everyone used their own bags. It's the government that have changed our shopping habits and vastly increased the use of petrol based plastic products. We managed for years without this shite. The powers that be want us being super suckers, buying crap we don't need. Giving approvals to foods that consist of shit and sugar then bang on about obesity and landfill waste. So happy to make a buck from taxes but not spend out on the long term effects.

There's nothing much we can do - we all want to wear cotton, we all want to shower once or twice a day, we all want our homes warm in the winter, we all want to travel etc etc.
No government is going to tell people they can't have any of the above.
We will have to wait for the catastrophic event that takes away all the above without option, then change will be forced upon us. |

The trouble being is always the same in that any change tends to hit the least able to afford it and on the other side the Global warming stuff also hits the poorest and the least able to deal with it and there was a survey which stated the worse polluters are the top 20% of the richest nations and indivuals as well so there aren't any easy and ready sollutions but we are relying on our leaders who in turn get backed by big money ???? and we all need insects as well be up the creek without bee's ?? |

We should all give a fuck & those who don't, well fuck you! The biggies, the governments and corporations obviously are the ones that make the biggest difference but as long as there's big finance involved they'll continue to do what makes the most for them & shun the responsibilities!
Of course many have the attitude that they'll be dead by the time the environment really changes for the worse, they don't give a fuck, I'm alright Jack so leave it out! As long as they can get pissed, watch their sodding footy, go clubbing & get laid that's all they care about & fuck the rest. Shame because it's their offspring's children that'll suffer, the wildlife, nature & everyone's health. You think Covid's bad wait til the future, oh you can't can you!

We all consume electricity - that comes at an environmental cost.
Most of use keep using single use plastics.
We can all do our little bit which will add up collectively. If we persuade politicions and big business that we are prepared to change our voting and consuming habits, then larger scale change will happen....but we all need to change our habits not just talk about it. |

Let alone 3rd world countries(China is not a first world country) trying to get to the living standard we are lucky to have here. Here is an issue, who you to say they cannot? You go tell that kid picking up rubbish for a living that he cant have electricity. Thats the paradox though, as you say "Dont blame other countries". Yet it is third world countries that create a large % of worldwide pollution. India, China and Bangledesh being some of the worst
What is the "necessary action"? Everyone here ride bicyles? Yeah you tell Terry he has to cycle 40 miles to work everyday, its just unfeasble. Same as saying we should all drive electric cars, they are not cost effective for the majority of the population. Let alone the problems with mining rare earth minerals to make them in the first place which is ignored by most.
It seems like the only way out of this is some sort of Elyisum stlye world where 99% of the world live like medieval peasants

Everyone in gb or Western Europe abandoning the use of petrol and Diesel engines has very little effect to the overall picture if China adds tens of millions of cars to the road and increases coal usage.

I think there's quite a big lack of honesty and publicly available and relevant information. I mean EU directives to take actions... (which was why we all got sent 5 power saving light bulbs years ago)... What did that achieve? If we knew the big culprits for 80 percent of the issues then we can make an informed choice. Being bullied into a few million electric cars or the notion of carbon neutral travel.... Pfft. |

Climate change is a natural occuring phenomenon.
For millions of years the magnetic poles have shifted.
Evidence shows this to be fact. Core samples at the polar caps have found vegetation from thousands of years ago and this is repeated.
Volcanic explosions and tsunamis have happened as tectonic plates shift.
What the powers that be are doing is scarmongering people into parting with cash to line their pockets and make the world feel guilty for them making a mess of the planet through their dodgy dealings and polluting companies.
Nature will always win through though.
Once we've all destroyed the planet and we've suffered the consequences, it will reclaim itself. |

Wondering how a dam could possibly have an impact on the Earth’s rotation? Here’s a wonderful source that breaks it down further:
Three Gorges Dam crosses the Yangtze River in Hubei province, China. It is the world’s largest hydroelectric power station by total capacity, which will be 22,500 MW when completed. When the water level is at maximum….it will flood a total area of 632 km2 of land. The reservoir will contain about 39.3 cubic km (9.43 cubic miles) of water. That water will weigh more than 39 trillion kilograms (42 billion tons).
A shift in a mass of that size will impact the rotation of the Earth due to a phenomena known as “the moment of inertia”, which is the inertia of a rigid rotating body with respect to its rotation. The moment of inertia of an object about a given axis describes how difficult it is to change its angular motion about that axis. The longer the distance of a mass to its axis of rotation, the slower it will spin. You may not know it, but you see examples of this in everyday life. For example, a figure skater attempting to spin faster will draw her arms tight to her body, and thereby reduce her moment of inertia. Similarly, a diver attempting to somersault faster will bring his body into a tucked position.
Raising 39 trillion kilograms of water 175 meters above sea level will increase the Earth’s moment of inertia, and thus slow its rotation. However, the impact will be extremely small. NASA scientists calculated the shift of such a mass will increase the length of day by only 0.06 microseconds, and make the Earth only very slightly more round in the middle and more flat on the top. It will also shift the pole position by about two centimeters (0.8 inch). Note that a shift in any object’s mass on the Earth relative to its axis of rotation will change its moment of inertia, although most shifts are too small to be measured (but they can be calculated).
