"Reports of a large unidentified animal in the sea off Bournemouth.. locals believe it is probably a large shark.. Toms advice.. stay out of the sea until this bugger is identified.."
Basking sharks were common off Bornemouth, they are big but plankton eaters. the worst then can to is give you a nasty suck |

Would be a rather interesting turn off events if it was a large shark previously unknown to roam around British waters...
Imagine if by some long shot chance that if it was one off the top three most dangerous as well? Either a bull shark/tiger shark or even a great white...
Hmmm very interesting indeed if it was a great white silently lurking in the ocean unnoticed and undetected until now
More then likely large chance it is nothing really dangerous but would be twist if it was... |

And it is quite likely that what someone thought was a Great White, might in fact have been a Porbeagle shark as they look remarkably similar |

Tom, do you know how rare it is to be hurt by a shark? Have you seen the statistics? I've swum with sharks and they had plenty of chances to bite me, but didn't. |

You can of course choose to avoid sharks by never entering the sea, and that's your choice entirely. I just don't like it when species are falsely vilified, especially when they are already nearing extinction. |

Fascinating.....the ocean truly is a mysterious place to venture as one never truly knows what is lurking underneath it does not necessarily have to be a shark etc as there are many other types off sea animals which are dangerous..
Over time who knows with climate change there could be a migration off different species wondering around in British waters which have not ventured there before?...
Would be awesome though if you could have a pet great white shark just imagine the kind off adventures you could get up to or the tricks you could teach it....
or if one was a little more sinister/evil minded like myself they could even make it devour their enemies
...*proceeds to do a loud evil laugh* |

"More fake news!
It's all over the news .
So why did the experts evacuate the beach ?"
This is why it's fake news:
"ISAF confirmed 57 unprovoked shark bites on humans and 39 provoked bites. Unprovoked attacks” are defined as incidents in which an attack on a live human occurs in the shark's natural habitat with no human provocation of the shark."
This is worldwide annually, as I said fake news |

What type of sharks and where?
Caribbean reef sharks. It was awesome
That is ace! Was it diving with them or just swimming? "
Snorkeling. I could have dived, but I'm not a fan of being underwater for long x |

People should be more worried about the amount of raw, untreated sewage that is pumped into all of our sea - particularly on south coast. At least the threat of a shark can be easily seen. |

Very true. As I mentioned earlier there's been a huge spillage near us recently. |

Another siting off Benidorm beach which is in Spain. A man eating shark was in the shallows yesterday and the local Spanish police had to form a human shield to prevent people going into the sea. This went on for hours. |

A human shield? The shark probably thought it was buffet time |

"More fake news!
It's all over the news .
So why did the experts evacuate the beach ?"
I was physically on the beach on the day in question and live 10 mins walk away. No evacuation happened. We were asked to remain on the beach for half hour while lifeguards took a jetski out to investigate. Local experts have said it was almost certainly a basking shark as they are residents in UK waters all year round and do come close to shore to feed occasionally.
Your more likely to get struck by lightning than be attacked by a shark. Especially one like the basking shark that only eats plankton. |

Then the basking shark would die probably. It is unable to kill larger pretty prey. Not everything is trying to kill you! |

When so called local experts, without seeing the beast, say it's probably a basking shark? That's not science...
I wonder if they are trying to protect the tourist season...
Just like in the movie .. Jaws |

Not true...the list of dangerous sharks in UK waters is even longer than I feared |

It's true. I read it in a book entitled "The Geographical Proclivities of Sharks in UK Waters." I found it in the restricted section of the library, next to "Why Rats Have Image Problems" and "Crocodiles: Who Scares, Wins" |

"One thing is certain to me... This beast may return...
And if it does and feasts on a local then the so called experts will cry...
I thought it was a backing shark... Morons "
Basking sharks will never "feast on a local". They are filter feeders. They have no teeth. Plus I don't see why you are even causing such a drama out of a tiny event.
Sharks have been on this earth for millions of years and hopefully will be for millions more. It's keyboard warriors like you that help create and maintain the idiotic stereotype that all sharks are just mindless killing machines. Until this little bit of news, did you even know there were sharks in UK waters? Well, in fact out of the 400 or so known species of shark that are in the earth's oceans, 21 of those species are native year round to UK waters. Plus there hasn't been any unprovoked shark attacks in British waters since 1847. |

Coming from the guy who read the word "shark" in a news article and automatically starts voicing the stereotype that all sharks are dangerous despite having know knowledge of sharks other than what he knows from a work of fiction. |

The point missed here is that the beast was never identified... One rule in life that I have adhered to in life and has served me well is this.. Never Assume. It could be a Great White or Wally the Walrus for all we know and armchair scientists who have not seen this sea monster are reckless to assume it is safe to venture back into the seas.
In the film Jaws, community leaders put tourism and profit before the safety of holidaymakers and look what happened. It was documented in the book also. I am not saying what type of beast this was because I did not see it and I am not prepared to guess like these armchair warriors. The second rule that I have adhered to in life that has served me well is this. If you don't know what it is then treat it as potentially dangerous until proven otherwise.. here endeth the lesson |

Lower limbs are both optional for life, and replaceable with prosthetics

"Apparently there was a Mako off Wales a few weeks ago
The Mako is definitely a man eater. How far off the beach was this predator.."
Couple of miles. It's apparently not unheard of, they're said to follow trawlers - makes sense I suppose.
"Where did you get your lunch, Bob?"
"Fell of the back of a boat."

The short fin mako is one of the all year round resident sharks in UK waters.
Where does it say makos are man eaters? They are on the endangered species list due to over fishing and are scarcely seen nor do they venture close to shore.
Honestly the film deep blue sea was awful lol
