"Happened again at the Olympics today when the colour was not what they wanted .. is it petulant, spoilt brat syndrome, winning mentality or something else.. ?"
Maybe they're saving it for best. |

First time I saw this happen was Man United in the Europa League final, seems to have become a thing for some reason.
They should be proud of their achievements, even if they're disappointed with the final result |

Maybe other competitions but not in the Olympics.
Being an Olympian isn't just about being the best at your chosen sport it's a state of mind.
The Olympic spirit.
The boxer needs to understand that he didn't get where he did alone and had lots of other people who would have been very happy with silver.
Ok there's nothing wrong with aiming high and wanting to be the best.
But it's hardly failing is it being the second best boxer at that weight "in the world"
I'd sell my soul to compete in the Olympics medal or not it's amazing.
Cut his funding, take back the medal and fuck him off out of it. |

His emotions took over and obviously you don't and will never know what's its like to go to the Olympics and train 4 years and not get medal you want. Course he was upset. If he smiled you would said he didn't try hard enough gtfoh! |

No but I've trained with several athletes who have gone on to become Olympians and win gold medals so I know what decent sportsmen and women are like, the mental toughness and the training they put in.
I also know that part of being a top athlete is knowing how to lose gracefully as well as well as win.
He was emotional I get it but it's disrespectful to act the way he did. |

Okay congrats now build a bridge and get over it. In the heat of the moment people do things they regret later on "Mr Perfect" I'm sure when he's older or even now he'll appreciate the medal. |

"It’s disrespectful to everyone that has helped him/her achieve the dream of even getting to the olympics "
This for me. So many people would love to have even got to the Olympics, never mind get a bronze or silver medal, and I think it’s ungracious.
I get the need for a “be the best” kind of mentality, but I think there comes a point when it goes too far. |

In history no one remembers Second place. Definitely athletes feel the pressure they shouldn't be villified for showing emotions for something they trained years for. Nobody is perfect and he's human. |

winners want to win its heat of the moment stuff we celebrate those that quit due to mental health issues but dont consider the mental health or mental state of those that have worked and worked so hard only to fall at the very last hurdle and be so so close to success
i understand what he was thinking and he will probably regret it when hes slept on it a bit
those that say should give it back or promote people below just don’t get that mentality
im sure he will eventually cherish the medal but right now it hurts
bit like england in the euros final I was gutted in the immediate aftermath of losing that penalty shootout but a week later you realise just how bloody well they did |

Ive been watching the rythmic gymnasts and omg, the DRAMA!!
The Russian girl who was favourite ended up in second place and was devastated .. she even put in an inquiry on her last piece of apparatus but scored was unchanged
She looked well pissed off that she didn’t get gold,
Surely she should be chuffed that she got a medal . She was beautiful but the Isreaeli athlete did smash it

I didn’t take my runners up medals, I didn’t think I should be rewarded for being one of the best losers. Instead it gave me motivation to train harder and get the golds. |

It can be a heat of the moment thing as they have worked hard and come so close on to be disappointed. Often they don't see it as winning a medal buy losing the gold medal. I am sure once they have had time to reflect they regret their actions and are proud of what they did actually achieve. |

Different coloured medals mean different things to different athletes.
Look at Laura muir and Holly bradshaw. It must have seemed for both of them that they were chasing an impossible dream at times. But both stuck at it and got rewarded for their hard work and determination.
I suspect that this lad isn't just disappointed that he has silver. He maybe felt that he should have had gold. That can really hurt at the elite level as the margins of error can be so fine.
For me it's human to see some people overwhelmingly overjoyed at a bronze and others bitterly disappointed. It's the way it goes.xxx |

I get the disappointment of not getting the medal you thought you deserved but for 3 minutes on a podium you could just hang it round your neck to represent your country proudly.
All medals count to your countries performance. |
