She did a lot more than write a diary. She stood up to a murdurous and repressive regime and was executed for it. |

I don't know whether or not her family were in hiding - I see no reason why they would be, until much later perhaps. However, she herself was extremely brave in the way she stood up and publicly protested the rise of Nazism in the face of the likely consequences. Her words of protest ring as true today as they did before her execution by firing squad. |

I think posters are getting confused, maybe my fault for drawing an equivalence.
My point was that most British schoolkids would be aware of Anne Frank's diary and its depiction of the lived experience of the Holocaust.
Most would not be aware of Sophie Scholl's principled stand against the Nazis, for which she was brutally executed. |

Wrong. Born in Braunau. Austria. Been to his birth place near the border with Germany. Half Austrian and half Jewish. If it was not for the final solution and his hatred of certain types and races etc. One could say he was a very brillient and clever man. |

"Adolf Hitler
He wasn’t German
Yep he was from Linz Austria
Wrong. Born in Braunau. Austria. Been to his birth place near the border with Germany. Half Austrian and half Jewish. If it was not for the final solution and his hatred of certain types and races etc. One could say he was a very brillient and clever man. "
Eh? Yes. If only it wasn't for the millions of innocents he decided to kill he'd be one of my favourites for his opportunism, manipulation, racism and psychopathology too.
Such unfortunate character traits. |

"Sophie Scholl ... a true heroine and an outstanding example for all.
It's amazing that she's barely known in Britain, compared to say Anne Frank. Took a German to enlighten me even as to her existence, never mind her bravery.
Sadly, I harbour an increasing apprehension that we may need her like again before too long... though I hope desperately I'm wrong.
She wrote a diary and the family were in hiding.
In what way was she brave...?
Tragic yes...brave .. not so sure..
I don't know whether or not her family were in hiding - I see no reason why they would be, until much later perhaps. However, she herself was extremely brave in the way she stood up and publicly protested the rise of Nazism in the face of the likely consequences. Her words of protest ring as true today as they did before her execution by firing squad."
She (Sophie), along with her brother, were executed by guillotine not firing squad. They weren’t in hiding and her father was imprisoned twice for speaking against hitler. |

Adolf Hitler was not half Jewish. There's a theory Hitler's father (Alois) had a Jewish father but no trace of a man of the right name has been found. Seeing as Jewish records go as far back as at least the 1500s in exceptional detail, the logical answer is - he didn't exist. The accepted theory is Alois Hitler's father was either the man whom his mother eventually married, or his brother (who left him considerable savings).
Adolf Hitler was pure Austrian peasant.
Anyway - back to Germans..... |
