I'm pretty sure the male mantis has the ultimate death orgasm though, just to make sure not one single gamete is wasted. That has to be worth it. |

Er, not so, the males or drones, to use their correct title, only exist to mate with a potential queen. A would be queen will fly from the hive and the drones follow and attempt to mate with her, those that do violently have their penis ripped from.their body.
If there's no opportunity for mating with the queen or a potential new queen then the drones are forced out of the hive by the workers as winter approaches because they are just a drain on the hive's resources because they do nothing. |

Technically no, the queen mates inflight, the drones don't serve any purpose at all in the hive, no work whatsoever so that's why they get kicked out on the onset of winter.
