Honestly I think some management is a non job. I've genuinely had managers that just attend meetings and tell other people to do things they've been asked to do without ever knowing how any of it works themselves. They could probably disappear and nobody would notice. I'm not saying all managers are like this but some are. |

I literally just had this the other week! I have a manager told me to do something a certain way which seemed suspect and I mentioned this to another manager and they told me how it broke numerous SOPs and that it should absolutely not be done. How do so many of these managers exist?  |

Web designers who create a fairly useable WordPress front end using loads of ecommerce plugins that don't really do what they're advertised to do and don't link in with the back end workflow and just make a load more work for the troops.

When I worked on the rebuilding of Derby Bus Station, I used to go and have a ciggie with a time served joiner, he must have been in his 60's, he told me that a straight from Uni "Manager", with pristinely clean rigger boots and hi-vis jacket, had walked up to him, clipboard in hand, and told him how to do a certain job. Ma mate said, I told him to fuck off, you probably couldn't even knock a nail in straight   |

Yep. They brought some of these in to the old hospital I worked at to "fix" a struggling department that was basically the call centre for appointments. Their findings were they needed more staff. Couldn't some maths (or yano, the current employees) have told them that for free? |

I have a large following of 40k (it just happened!) and I now do lots of promotion but let me tell you, it’s not easy. It’s actually really time consuming and quite draining at times. I’ve done modelling for years but this is different and it looks easy but it takes lots of time and effort, lots of messages back and forth with companies etc. |

I've made a sort of living playing music in the past. I didn't hate it but it never quite satisfied how it should have. Entertainment has to be one of the hardest professions in a way because you're not doing something that's measurable by any normal criteria. You can play a gig where the audience love it and are shouting for encores and feel like you played like the worst piece of shit that ever walked a stage. Acclaim and love from other people is actually shallow and not that satisfying.
I do a regular sort of job now and am not bad at it, have it under control, and I save music for when it's fun. |

I can see why you think that because they stay at home, but I imagine it can be quite draining being a full-time parent as everything you do HAS to revolve around the kids and you don't really get a moment to yourself or even adult interaction that you would with normal job.

100% right! The managers that ask there staff how things work when they finally get called out on something and need to try and do the job they are paid to do.

In my experience, all jobs go to people who are good at job interviews. Skills, competence, qualifications – none of that matters as long as you're good at interviews. It's like the school system used to be – if you were good at exams, you could coast on everything else.
And if you're not good at interviews... well, you might as well just go and die, because capitalism doesn't want you. Ugh. |
