Citrus juice is a good cleaning agent. If it's burnt, you might be stuck with it.

You need a strong-ish acid. Hydrochloric or sulphuric acid dissolves iron oxide. However, you might bugger up your worktop even more......

I've been told to tey toilet cleaner (not just bleach) where I have a rust stain on my bathroom tiles. I haven't tried it yet though so can't vouch that it works.

Baking soda and lemon juice! Put baking soda on top of any stain, add drops of lemon juice- just enough to make the baking soda bubble.
