What song always reminds you of the fair

Yazz, the Only Way is Up.
I was 14 when that came out and I had a massive crush on the guy who spun the waltzers. That song played non-stop in the background as I repeatedly paid him to give me whiplash while I attempted to look alluring (not easy when you're being spun round at a million miles an hour and the g-force is stretching your face to horror-movie standards).
After three weeks the fair moved on and I never saw him again. It's an epic tale of love and loss. |

We never really went to the fair, for me it's the pier (Walton and Clacton). But because we were there a lot, there's no one song that makes me think of it.
But in an abstract way, Rusholme Ruffians by The Smiths always pops into my head if I drive past a fair, or see a poster.
But even more specifically, the live version from Rank where they cover Marie's The Name, and segway it into Rusholme Ruffians.
Too much detail? |
