Who does them ??
I think i might go do one lose some timber have a bit of a run around haha
who does them what are they like do you just turn up and all that
will you stand out like larry no mates if u turn up on your own haha?? |

Done over 160 of them.
You have to sign up on the website and print off a barvode for you then just turn up. Listen to the first timer briefing to find out where to go then run round. You get given a finishing token at the end the go get that and your barcode scanned. Once the results are uploaded you will be sent your time and position via email or text.
Even if you don't want your time etc you should still get your finish token scanned otherwise it messes things up on the computer. Always hand your finish token back but keep your barcode. You can buy trainer tags and wristbands with them on which are abut more durable or just laminate your printed one. |

No you won’t stand out on your own, it’s very inclusive, just sign up get your barcode and go along. |

good work!! is that using your own time or do you get official times? I assume theres no chip timing given the numbers who turn up and because its free?? |

That’s an official time, my Garmin had me a bit slower. It’s not done by chip timing, but it’s close enough, there’s just a funnel system done by stopwatch and you just collect your token, they scan that and your barcode and you usually get an e Mail of the results and hour after the last person has finished. |

I did way better than I thought I would 1st time as I struggle with breathing but I got a chest infection & the group leader (I did it in a very supportive group) thought it best to stop. Then I got lazy again….. |

I need to find a local park run that's wheelchair friendly. Not on grass, gravel, cobbles, through woodland, up/down grass banking or involving steps. Just plain ol' ftarmac/concrete, please folks Hills acceptable but only if hard ground |

24.06 was my best time before lockdown, I’ve run two 5k’s this week up Hastings promenade, missed my home Parkrun this morning, but plan to run the course tomorrow for a current benchmark |

I’ll second this; it’s very social, there’s always someone who will chat/help/advise/encourage you, and you don’t have to be an expert or super fast either! Some people only ever walk the course! I always say; whatever time you run, it’s always quicker than the sofa |

Sometimes I go to different park runs so I'm on my own. I just ask someone where the start is and get chatting to people. |

I am the same. I think I have done 8 different park runs over 15 parkruns in total. Since I was injured last year and again recently for me the goal is just to get round even if I have to walk parts of it. Yesterday I jogged 2km, walked 1km, ran 1km, walked 0.5km and ran 0.5km to finesh.
Why I know my fitness is not where it needs or should be at. That is a mixture of a back injury and general fitness. Also my local park run isn’t the easiest to run and I normally run it 2 to 3 mins slower than a flat park run.
At the moment, I am happy to finish the course. Which is a positive. For me it doesn’t matter if your big or slim fit or unfit.
If you have never done a parkrun. I would say do the couch to 5km program as 5km is difficult if your a non runner. This is a 9 week program that should get you to actually finish a parkrun. Also walk your local course that really helps. |

The times on here are great but just wanted to post and say you don't have to hit sub anything to do a parkrun. You don't have to run it all or even any of it. Most will have tail walkers to make sure everyone gets round safely (my favourite volunteer role )
My fastest time was 36:02 on a very flat Stratford upon Avon course.
Also c25k isn't actually a 5k training programme. It's a half hour run training programme. It great and it's what I have used and should use again but if you do it and don't manage to hit the 5k in that time don't be disheartened or put off. You ran for half an hour straight. Then you cn push to keep going and hit the 5k. |

The first part of your comment made sense. It isn't competitive in that no one wins a prize for coming first but for many....accomplished or not.... It is a great addition to training and there will naturally be competition among certain people. Without parkrun I would never had entered any of the races I did from 5k up to the marathon.
We get you don't like parkrunnand have never done one, you tell us on every parkrun thread! |

I’d say I’m a fairly accomplished runner, certainly not a beginner. I tend to do a Parkrun once a month or so to gauge my fitness. I know other runners do them because they enjoy them. The front runners treat it as a friendly bit of regular competition. |

You’ve just totally contraindicated yourself there. Why shouldn’t accomplished runners do Parkrun, I couldn’t give a shit if they do it to beat everyone, the idea of Parkrun is that it’s inclusive and anyone can do it, even an Olympian, where else do you get that diversity. Parkrun started me running and I enjoy running against people faster than me, gives me something to strive for. |

It's absolutely something a novice can do. Google parkrun, it will show you your local ones. Register, get a bar code and then show up! It's 5km but lots of people walk or walk/run them. |

Its inclusive for everyone, fast runners to walkers and that's why its so good. I am now at the sharper end at my local parkrun with a 19 minute pb and love a bit of friendly competition.

Not done one yet but a stupid question? How does the bar code thing work. I understand that you print one off but does somebody at the end use a reader like in a shop or does the finish line have some clever scanner i.e., is it automatically read at the start and finish? |

Yeah they have volunteers each week in charge of scanning finish tokens (given to you at the end and corresponds to your finish piditoom on the timers stop watch) and your personal barcode then the results are uploaded to the parkrun website and get an email and text if you have set thst up. |

There’s official times logged online using your bar code. Timing is generally done really well but not chipped starts. If you want really accurate you just have to get to the front |

Went from 34mins to current pb of 21:13 over about 3 -4 years. I know everyone says pace yourself, but for 5k Its so short I get the best times when I sprint as fas as I can for as long as I can , until I’m about to black out and then drag myself over the finish |

You are probably not too concerned but tip of the day - constant speed nearly always achieves the best result. |

My wife and I try to get to one as often as possible. Great organisation. Most of them have a really good vibe too. Plenty of friendly people and doing the odd volunteer shift is perfect for making new friends too.
For those not ready to do the whole 5km (not everybody runs it anyway), volunteering is very motivational. |

Yeah think the tech isn't up to it. Trying to keep costs as low as possible (or cynically to make people buy their tags and wrist bands lol).
Think it costs £3k to set up a parkrun that has to be raised by the core team which is usually just a group of local runners. They fundraise and get support from local running clubs etc to get it off the ground.

I did them before lockdown. Go for it mate there are about 200 turn up to my local one all ages from kids to elderly. I was abit worried on my first one incase it's only for runners lol. |

If you have a look on parkrun website you can order a small card so you don’t have to print for less than 5 quid.

This is true. Just remember where you finished and look it up. Just remember to take the finish token to the scanners so it can still be scanned. |

Us.... - my wife and I jog Mon, Wed and Fri for 2 3/4 miles and I do a few other 4 mile jogs. When she can get all the way round 2 3/4miles without any walking stretches, we will time a 3 mile jog then sign up and do a run. My guess is that we will be trying our first Park run mid to late Augustish. |

You don't have to run all of it or even some of it. You could incorporate it into your sessions now if you wanted. I found it really helped and actually got lots of encouragement from the other runners as they lapped me (not all of then are laps). One guy stopped me as I was getting a coffee to congratulate me on how much I'd improved as he always tracked where he passed me and each week I was further round the course |

I will be honest - I am not fit enough to jog 5km at the moment. So last Saturday. Jogged 2km, walked 1km, jogged 1km, walked 0.5km and ran last 500 meters. Still got a park run time and finished. It was hard done get me wrong especially as my local park run has 3 inclines |

I totally agree, we could easily do one this week and my wife might even manage to get all the way round in one go but we see this as a thing called 'Park Run' so we want to be able to run all the way round first go - then watch the times improve (hopefully) as the weeks go by.
I reckon she will break 30mins within a few weeks. My aim will be to break 20mins. |

I think we are lucky. One of the local runs is completely flat (mixture of grass and a few paths) but others are quite severe.
Inclines never ever bothered me at all years ago. I found them very easy. It was the downward stretches that I didn't like so much. |

Ours is all tarmac which again is fine. This weekend I am actually going to another London based run that is a lot flatter. I just want to see what my pace and fitness is like on a flat course |

Ours is all tarmac which again is fine. This weekend I am actually going to another London based run that is a lot flatter. I just want to see what my pace and fitness is like on a flat course "
It will be interesting to see how my ancient body gets round. The only flat race I have ever done is on a track - but even they have a bend at each end. All the road races I ever did had a nasty hill in the middle of them. |

I've signed up but my local one was cancelled this morning and I couldn't be bothered to travel to another one, so I'll start next week.
Also my thighs are wrecked from other activities last night lol
But next week I'll definitely do the Southampton one, does anyone else do this course? X |

Yes onwards and upwards. This is the first week that we are putting a structured training schedule into place so I think the times will reduce in about 6 weeks time. |
