So Jodie is leaving next year.
Who's next?
Never really got into it again after Matt Smith left .
Being the modern BBC they will probably try and be PC rather than choosing the best person for the role.
But here's my choice
Richard Ayoade.

Never gonna happen as he's still doing Prodigal Son but
Michael Sheen
Could bring back the drama and mad professorness of it. Plus a two Dr's ep with him and Tennant would be great.
Short commute from Port Talbot to Cardiff too |

Michael Sheen ........ yes...... oh yes........ yes ...... yes.....
Or Tom Hollander but perhaps he's a little too big for Dr.Who |

A Capaldi crossover would be good in that instance. |

"No.
I adore Richard but he lacks the necessaries......
He plays an intelligent disinterested misanthrope well .... Dr. Who? Nah.
Ok what about
Jermaine Clement?"
No, I’d spend the evening fapping.
What about Michael Sheen? He’s back in the UK now so might consider it?
Not that I’m his agent…. |

Yes he bloody well can. Did you see him with thingy on whatsit a couple of months ago ?
Jennifer Saunders...... he is sooooooooooo down to earth .... so nice. |

"Wasn't Ollie Alexander pencilled in for the role?
Yes I heard this too. Surely that would make him the youngest Dr who ever.
Is that Years and Years Ollie ?"
It is yes.
A few news outlets started saying they thought he'd be the next Doctor...
But the Beeb are exceptional at keeping who it is underwraps until the official reveal. If it's be bookies favourite (like Ollie currently is) you can be sure it won't be them! |

That rumour was killed the day after it started with Olly himself rubbishing it. |

You do realise that a lot of people would say that was a 'PC' choice because he'd be the first Doctor of colour? |

I was enjoying Dr Who until Peter Capaldi came along.
Wasn't his fault, it was the stories. Completely ruined it for me.
The way things are going with being PC I would be surprised if they cast a teapot next |

I'm not up on actors enough to think of a name but for me it's more important that they get a better head writer, as the writing for the Whittaker era was frequently poor and didn't give her much of a chance.
Personally I'd like a total re-invention of the show by and for a new generation. The Doctor can be any gender or ethnicity, but if the writing and the ideas aren't there it won't matter who they are (although I am totally on board with another female Doctor and/or person of colour).
I have noticed though that whenever people talk about a new Doctor half the suggestions seem to be based on a celebrity's eccentric dress sense rather than whether they're a good actor or not |

Does that matter he would be brilliant.
What I meant was they would go for a non male non female of neutral colour . |

Jody Comer - yes, though she's about to appear in a film with Ryan Reynolds, so her TV days could be behind her.
Ruth Wilson - though considering how she does dark & twisted so well she'd make a better Missy.
Thandiwe Newton - recently did Line of Duty and of course due to appear in S4 of Westworld.
Simon Quarterman - probably best known for Westworld. |

" Michaela Coel
Lydia West ........"
I got in trouble recently for suggesting Lydia West would be a great Doctor but would be better when she's a little older. I was lectured about how Matt Smith was younger, etc as though that made a difference to the idea age for Lydia West to play it...
Michaela Coel would make a really nice contrast to the slightly too fluffy Whittaker. |

"Bring back Donna. She was funny. I don't want her brain to burn out though, but this is the Dr Who team we're talking about and they can make anything fit. "
I cant blame jodie but I can blame the script writers for the dismal performance in docter who.
They had it spot on with donna and jenna billie karen alex
but for some reason the bbc wanted to destroy the doctor who series and the writing was so dismal written by a child is my line of thought. |

I'm the same as you, after Matt Smith, it went downhill. The Jodie Whittaker first few episodes I watched were woeful.
As for who's next...
Most likely will be that years and years guy from the aids show.
Ben whishaw would be good.
If they want to go female again, Kelly MacDonald or Vicky McClure.
Lennie James.

I agree with that about this series. Also the guy that played Jeff also played the lead in a series called strange. It was similar to doctor who. He fought demons etc |

Whatever the BBC decide to do they will probably tick every PC box they can, which if the person tneh choose is suitable for the role would be amazing but given the last two doctors, Jodie's especially it will be all about ticking boxes and lessons.
Should be based on talent, no matter which sex they are etc.
Micheal Sheen is a good shout though, I like the mad type of doctor, if they could find someone that is part Matt Smith and part David Tennant, that would be amazing!

I always thought Kris Marshall would make an excellent choice for the role, he has a quirkiness to him that I think would be great as the Doctor. |

Well in keeping with how the BBC currently are it will probably be.
A genderfluid person of mixed race with a physical disability and on the autistic spectrum.
And really watered down PC storylines.
Ensuring that even aliens who are trying to destroy the planet don't feel victimised and singled out.
At the end of every episode they all hold hands and sit around a fire singing kumbaya in different languages.
Then sing traditional songs for all the major religions just so that everyone is included. |

I don’t care who plays the Doctor. I just want a more adult, gritty reboot.
Last episode of the current series the Doctor turns up to save the day but goes down in a hail of bullets. Mortally wounded they regenerate into a universe (yes I know they usually travel in time and space but let’s have a bit of multiverse action) that’s dark and grim, a bit like the Warhammer40k universe where they’ll only ever win minor victories rather than the whole war. A universe where they have to rely on others to bail them out more often than not rather than being the saviour every time. |
