I am a non recovering alcoholic and I know my strengths. Budweiser was once 5% then 4.8 and now 4.5% alcohol. Carling Black label is another. Once advertised proudly as 4.1% and now below that. Brewers pay less tax and it allows them to play with prices.
San Miguel in Spain was 5.2% on my last visit and 5.0% here. Even Stella Artois is weaker now.
Any onion growers out there. I don't know my onions but I do know that there is tampering and as any Victorian style alcoholic. I am not amused |

Brewers are cutting alcohol strengths in beer and cider.
Alcoholic - can’t live without alcohol.
Drinker - likes alcohol in moderation.
Teetotal - recovering alcoholic.
Don’t drink - simply never got a taste for it.

Is there a reason they're cutting strengths? Is it health directives behind the scenes or greed to save money and make higher profits etc? |

More profit.. the higher the alcohol content then the more duty which might affect sales.

I believe it is health and social welfare driven. Reduce weekend scrapping, except in Portsmouth where it’s normal anyway… |

When we were teens and didn't have much money we used to follow what the older guys that slept in the park drank, they did the maths , alcohol content to price ratio, Tennant’s super or special brew nearly always won. |

Hafe right
More profit is right but nothing to do with duty
Less alcohol the more you have to buy to get piseed
Say it’s pound a can and say 3 cans get you pissed
That’s 3 pounds
Now say you cut the alcohol % in hafe it now takes that person 6 cans to get the same pissed dubble the company profits to 6 pounds
If you want to see it rise everone stops buying they brand and it go back up
All it is greedy company’s
Look at Mars bars cost has stayed the same but the bars are 3/4 the size they use to me
Meaning for the same amount off cost they can preduse 3/4 more quantities and charge the exact same |

Teetotal is just a non drinker, not necessarily related to substance use disorder.
(10 yrs sober / clean and happy to discuss it with anyone who needs to chat) |

"I am an alcoholic and struggling "
Aye, that's why I wasn't sure and didn't want to come across the wrong way.
I'm truly sorry to hear of you struggling. I can't pretend to understand it but just know people are willing to talk and try to help if you reach out.

Even though you live in the arse end of Essex Tom(football rivalry as we are from Southend which really is the arse end of Essex) I wish you the very best of luck and progress with your personal struggle.

I'm more of a binge drinker, I can go for weeks without touching a drop, but I know that they've reduced the 3 ltr bottles that I used to buy, to 2.5 ltr, although the % Vol has remained the same. |
