Contradiction of terms?

Met somebody the other night, not from this forum as far as I know, who claimed to be a "collared switch" now I know I don't know too much about the bdsm lifestyle but I found that expression a little unusual to say the least. Only ever heard of subs being collared before

Is this a typical type of relationship?

We've got a double gang switch for the lights upstairs and down.

I thought the term was contradiction in terms.

My definition of switch means both ways but u can't be collared and a switch...if u can its a new one on me... doesn't make much sense either

Some masters/owners/whatever have more than one collared slave, often there is a hierarchy, where both are sub to the master but one slave is dom to the other (the dom slave in this scenario would be your 'collared switch')?

Sounds like the switch puzzles we had to do when we were learning binary when I first went into IT !

the terms are a bit of an exclusive OR in this case though

Is there ever any rhyme or reason or box to put things in?

I think a fetish is just a fetish and what ever it is just seems to do it for the fetishist.

Just because she is collared to her master doesn't mean she has to be sub to everyone. Many people are both dom and sub, I for 1 am sub 95% of the time but I do enjoy been dom from time to time. My partner (Mistress) however is dom 99%of the time. Don't see any problem with what she said to you, maybe she just didn't want to be sub to you .

Why do you think I would have any interest in somebody else's sub? I have have heard of subs Doms/dommes tops bottoms switches and many other descriptions but never a collared switch. It sounds a contradiction in terms which is why I posed the question.

Maybe it is a contradiction in terms, but its her master/mistress who she's collared to, doesn't mean she has to be sub outside of that relationship, who's to say her owner doesn't get a thrill out of the fact that she's collared and sub to them but to others she is dom, could be a number of things , which ever it is that's their choice ,it does happen in the bdsm scene, admittedly not very often.

By definition a collared sub, what happens elsewhere is irrelevant. What you have described would mean the top could be collared just because the might be subbed by others outside the relationship

I never said or implied her owner could be collered . I implied that "maybe" her owner gets a thrill out of seeing her be dominant to "others" . Maybe to help you understand it better , Its a bit like a vegetarian eating fish , by definition a vegetarian shouldn't," but it does happen", if it works for them then that's their choice. Oh And before you pick fault I'm not a vegetarian lol.
