I was pretty much ok all through my youth. Never in major trouble. Used to have small gatherings of mates when my parents went away.. nothing crazy.
Only reason I got found out was a mate called one of those premium chat lines and never hung up properly. Showed up on out itemised phone bill..

I grew up before my time. I was a carer from the age of 12 and was never influenced by my peers.
As a result i didn't live my teenage years. Had my first kiss just before turning 20 and still a virgin at 24. I don't drink and never have done so i was always too busy being the designated driver and looking after my friends to get into trouble. |

Complete and utter ass hole I was, fighting all the time, spent 4 consecutive birthdays in police custody. Just didn't give a flying fuck for anyone or anything.
Wasn't until I was 30 before I woke up to what an idiot and general waste of space I was. Thankfully never got a custodial sentence ( mainly due to solicitors saying how much potential I had ) clocked up thousands of hours of community service though. So glad I got my life on track in the end, God knows if I would be here now if I hadn't. |

I had the worst attendance record of the whole school during my final year (I could see the school gates from my kitchen window)
I broke the law. Constantly.
I did things that were detrimental to my health and others around me.
I got in fights and was generally horrible.
My poor mum tried her best, but I was so far off the rails I needed a life jacket.
I left school at 16 with no qualifications. Fell into a job that changed my life and paid for my first house. Moved to Devon and life changed, I changed. I now have a number of academic qualifications, I have worked in numerous countries, trying to do good and have slowed my life down. After an intense career of 15 or so years I am now semi-retired.
The child that I was, I do not connect with at all. But it was me and I don’t forget. |

I was an absolute pain in the arse.
I don't like to make excuses but I did have an incredibly dysfunctional upbringing which contributed to my behaviour.

Have done some very very stupid things when I and my friends where younger. Not hugely proud of some of the things I was involved with as a teenager. Ranging from petty vandalism/pranks to stuff a bit more serious. Had a scare around the age of 19/20 which kinda made me think about my decisions going forward

I was great at school. Loved it and loved learning… however… I found clubs and music at a very early age and blew several years living it up, I don’t regret a thing, it was magical. But I was a handful for my poor parents!! |

Things are good now but the guilt never goes away, my siblings and I are all grown up and nothing is said but the pain I caused my family whilst “finding myself” is pain that lies deep.
I can never make amends, I cannot balance the scales, for many years I took jobs in the most dangerous of places, to “die a hero” but the fates never give you what you want, they give you what you need and what I needed then, as now, was humility. Now I live a quiet life I stay single and I focus on my family, making up for the years that I did not. |

I wasn't a goody 2 shoes but I just kept my head down and tried not to cause too much trouble and get on with what I wanted to. We had a corner shop in the area so was always worried about people "reporting" stuff back to my Dad if I got in trouble |

I wasn’t the nicest of kids and I imagine my teachers didn’t like me much. More anti social than criminal, with a streak of truancy thrown in and some very minor vandalism. My dad was fairly prominent locally so I thought I was obliged to be a bit of an anti establishment rebel.
All changed when I started my career at 19 though.

My dad was an alcoholic bully who used to come home from the club and wake me and my brother up ( aged 10 and 11 ) to proper fist fight with us, had 6 police pull him off me at one point as he had a knife to my throat ( aged 12 ) I attribute none of this to my behaviour as I was just a complete prick and responsible for my own actions. I know everyone has their own views and opinions but I was a waste of time because thats how i chose to be, not moulded or steered that way , I chose that for myself just like I chose to get myself together. |

That’s how we grow isn’t it chap? By accepting responsibility, I know how easy it is to blame circumstances for our behaviour and in many cases (like yours) there’s justification, but to pull yourself out of it you have to take ownership of your life. When you do. You become someone “in spite of” not someone “because of” and the power that gives you is immense. |

That's the point I was making, some people will make correlation between my past experience and go " oh thats why " not the case though, to reiterate i was an asshole because I chose to be an asshole. And I am who I am today because I chose to no longer be an asshole and make a positive impact to society and my life instead. |

I was a dick.
Messed up and lacking parental guidance.
Off the rails, just realise I needed someone to put their arm's around me and pay me some attention.
Ten years of neglect has shaped the rest of my life,I'm not blaming anyone for who I am now but I always wonder how things could have been... |

I was very well behaved.
There were only 3 schools left in the country that still used corporal punishment when i was at school. The management that ran my school owned 2 of those.
My parents were quite strict- & pushy. Even from a young age they'd enter me in baby competitions (there's an old newspaper clipping they have where i came first out of about 1000 toddlers).
I think what they did was coming from good intentions, but they were probably over zealous. |

100% the geeky rule follower and bullied quite badly by the big strong athletic boys.
Now those boys eat my arse and thank me.
Not sure if it's Stockholm syndrome or "good girl gone bad", but I'm much more likely to break rules now, especially sexual ones than when I was in school. |
