When someone publicly presents themselves one way when in actual fact behind the scenes they are the complete opposite.

For me, it's a case of be you, people either value and respect that or they don't. But when someone presents an image, says what they think others want to hear to make them socially acceptable , to fit in and you know otherwise what then...hmmm

I'm inclined to look at what people do as well as what they say and if the two differ I avoid them as far as possible

I take people at face value, talking shite on the forums is basically what I do most of the time. If the connection goes to pm, then we tend to find out a little bit more about each other

If I didn't present an image I'd probably be in jail by now. We all have to conform our personalities for work, society etc.

It takes too much energy to act out like that in my opinion!

I’m happy to roll with it. It requires far less effort!

Not much you can do. It’s such a common thing online and especially so when trying to present a positive image for others. It can be infuriating to watch.

You cant dictate how other people are, so in answer to what then, I step away from it.

Some people allow their ego to represent them rather than their true self.

Fab life. So many disingenuous folk. Also lots of nice people. Much like the real world really.

I guess it's just a case of learning.

I didn't mean to seem patronising if I came across that way. You're in the south, so if it's someone from the forum I could probably guess out of 5 people is all.

People will always do and say what they need to achieve their objectives. That's why you don't take anything at face value but try to get to know them better. Unless of course you just want a quick shag.

In my happy place

Had a social last week where the key board personality was the only one available to him.

Half a drink and painful one word answers to my chat.

Waste of time.

on tv he always can over as a very nice guy, in real life he was a cock

For sure but luckily that's easy enough to do. I believe most people here are decent but there's a few who can be very cutting. I don't know if it's an utter lack of text or someone pisses in their wheaties every single morning. In the end all you can do is just bypass them completely. And it helps to be unpopular enough that you never hear what anyone says behind your back.
