"Either a pub or a cafe.
I normally leave the choice to her - what ever venue she feels more relaxed in.
That's sweet to let her choose! "
Many people find it quite stressful, so if she's more relaxed in a certain environment then it one less thing to worry about. |

Depends on circumstances but preference is to do something little different and hopefully memorable. Recently did a virtual treasure hunt in a big city which was fun. ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

"Are you talking about social meets for the sake of it or are you talking about social meets with a view 'appraise' for a possible sexual liaison ?"
I guess it is a bit of both, to see if we have enough in common to consider future meets and, within that framework, I also know whether there is chemistry on my part. I usually know that within 5 minutes of meeting. |

For me it would be a pub ( but i'd have a coffee ) or a cafe. There would never be a meal involved on a first meet with someone from here.
my plan always is ......... one drink and go.
A meal with someone not to my liking would be arduous. |

Whatever we both feel comfortable doing and decided together, from sitting in a river pub and chatting for hours, watching a game, out for a country walk, no set agenda. It definitely wouldn’t be a quick coffee |

I wonder I wonder.... hmmmmm I did the art gallery and the library ..... that WAS interesting..
We ended up in the Bluecoats for an Earl Grey. |

Ah, the meet wasn't virtual thankfully! There are various online treasure hunts/street puzzles you have on your phone and tick off clues as you solve them. Great way to discover new city mixed with coffee and food. |

No way would I be country walking with a person I don't know.
Do you take a film crew ? |

A meal is a long time commitment if you don't gel!
I'd worry that by being polite I'd give off the wrong vibes that i was interested
I'd prefer coffee /cake or drink in a bar... Both can become more if you are feeling the vibe
Just make sure you keep your safety contact informed of changes in plans /location |

"Usually a coffee in the park or down the beach, occasionally the pub (I'm not a drinker) as it's convenient. Pubs are great in the summer when you can sit outside. "
Yes, we did that, he brought his dog! Then we went for a walk round the cemetery... So that was different lol |

It feels like the replies reflect how long people have chatted in advance? I've had one drinks only meet after chatting just the night before but otherwise I'm meeting people I feel I know quite well and want to spend more time with. |

I love the garden at the back of the bluecoat, always feels really serene and great for a bit of quiet. I have met there for a social too! |

Oh god yeah. I only really meet for sex and only once I'm comfortable. Recently met one of my lovely fab friends after about 5 years of chatting. It doesn't normally take that long though! ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

Totally. It’s rare I can chat to someone and meet the next day, it’s at least a week normally if not more depending on the other person’s availability too |

"Definitely never a meal. Too datey"
I have heard that said before.
I quite like that environment because I want to experience that person in full, how they look, talk, their views on some things and ultimately if I can imagine allowing them near me on a more intimate level. I guess that works for me and I am probably one of very few who take so long? ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

Yeah - I am curious to find out what other people do when meeting. Seems there is a group that likes to get down to business after a drink or so and a group that takes a lot longer. No right or wrong, just different. |

No mucking around as it’s always a restaurant seeing as I don’t drink or fuck being greedy I want something out of it so a nice meal goes down well and leaves my wife to click or not with whom ever we are meeting.

Two questions from me:
1. Why would you think that asking the question means somebody could be socially inept?
2. Why would you say that asking the question suggests somebody is socially inept? Surely if that were true (the socially inept bit) you would not make somebody feel worse by calling that out?
Am I missing something? |

"52 and still asking that kind of questions? " A question was asked. Advice wasn't sought. If you want to know what other people do then you have to ask them the question you want the answer to, regardless of your age.
Now reading without comprehension ,that's a huge barrel of illogical fish and assumptions.

Ww generally go with whatever the person or people we are meeting are comfortable with.
We have done the usual pub/bar, cafe, coffee shop.
We've also done a proper meal in anice restaurant, a simple walk in the country, motorway services on the way to a club (wouldn't choose that again).
Anything that people feel they would enjoy and be comfortable doing. |

"Coffee shop more relaxed.
I never do a pub as I like both parties to be sober so they have a better judgement of the other person."
I take your point about drinking but for me meeting in a pub means driving so I would not drink anyway. People I meet are at least 30 minutes drive away, so they are not drinking either (If they did I would not meet them a second time.)
I just like the relaxed atmosphere of an evening and a pub snack/ meal. ![](/icons/s/biggrin.gif) |

Exactly see my job is very dependent on me driving so drink driving is a big no-no.
And a lovely walk in the country park is nice I'm a very outdoors person. Every time I finish work I'm going to sit underneath my car port with a cup of coffee I'm a cigarettes and my beautiful dog. Relaxing and reminiscing of the day and what the future holds.
