Cruise Holiday Gone Wrong (Scenario)

Here's the scenario.

You and your partner are going on a cruise together around the mediterranean but you miss the flight to Palma. You get the next available flight late in the evening which gets you both to Malta the next day and you wait for the Cruise liner to dock there. You see the boat coming in the distance but the bad weather conditions and rough waters makes the boat turn and leave stranding you both in Malta.

What would you do? Stay in Malta for the rest of your holiday or would you get the next flight home?

"What's the next port of call? "

It is possible to get a flight to where the next port will be.

If booked direct with the Cruise Line, their personnel would assist with onward connections to join the ship.

I probably would just get the next flight home, head to the travel agents to get a refund (which I'm sure might take some days to get back) and go somewhere in the UK for the rest of the week.

"Malta could be good "

Now that I think about it, there would be some things to check out like a water park or even the Popeye Village (also known as Sweethaven) which is an actual set where they filmed the movie Popeye.

If you could afford it stay in Malta and get some holiday.

Not sure you’d get a refund for your cruise mind as you missed the flight out, unless they told you to then fly to Malta but didn’t pick you up

That would be disappointing not being able to get a refund.

Contact the cruise company to find out how they're going to get me on the boat.

I wouldn’t miss the flight in the first place because I would stay in a hotel near the airport with parking and transfers included. This is often cheaper than airport parking.

I'm sure you wouldn't get a refund as it was your fault you missed the flight. If the ship knew you were waiting in Malta they would advise you what to do next.

What was the outcome ?

Central

It would depend on the itinerary of the ship as well as my mood at the time. I'd tend towards getting the ship again but it would depend on the circumstances somewhat. Some travel insurance may cover missed departure.

"What was the outcome ?"

The couple tried to get to the next ports in Sicily and Italy but was unable to so they were stranded in Malta and spent the rest of the holiday going from one hotel to another and came back home very disappointed.

Funny you should mention that as someone actually tried swimming to the ship after it had left port.
