Yes I do but think I'm a bit far away for practical help. I'd advise you to find a good local instructor and talk to them about what you want to do eventually. e.g just play covers, write your own stuff etc. That way they can teach you what you need to know. But above all stay motivated as with learning any new skill. And if you buy a guitar to learn with, only buy a cheap one in case you decide its not for you. The resale value is rubbish if you buy an expensive one and give it up. |

I've been playing for over 30yrs and regularly teach. I agree with what has been said previously. Try to find a local teacher and use the internet for online lessons. It's also worth picking up some of the various monthly magazines suchas guitarist and guitar techniques. They come with lessons and tutorial CD's. If in doubt or if you want advice feel free to drop me a message.

Lol, no one is beyond help. It's mainly about putting the time in and building muscle memory.
When I was a kid and just starting I'd play for as much as 6 hours a day, now though its around an hour.
Once you get the basics down and develop your ear the world really opens up.
Can I also mention that I build custom guitars, repairs them and offer a full setup service cheaper than most shops offer, I even pick up and return the guitar if needs be. Just incase anyone needs any work doing. |

Best bet is to leave all 3 pickups in place for aesthetics (unless you want a stripped down 'punk'd looking guitar). All you need to do is wire the pickup you want (im assuming its the bridge)
Directly to the volume pot and straight to the output jack. It's a simple job, shouldn't take more than 40mins. As for a new pickup, do you want what was originally factory fitted or do you fancy an upgrade? For a Lea Paul I highly recommend the Seymour Duncan Pearly Gates. They're widely available and cost around £120, they also have 4 conductor wiring so can be 'tapped' for a single coil sound. |

Cheers, gonna strip it down, remove the scratchplate and punk it up...I'll look for the SD on eBay. It's been photographed with Mrs JFL more often than it's been played ! |

Try cleaning the pots and toggle with switch cleaner (couple of quid from electrical shops) you may find that its just dirt and crap that's messing with them which is typical of Epiphone. A good upgrade for them is either Dimarzio or Bournes Low Friction. The Dimarzio are around £15 and the Bournes are a little more (much more if you get the Eddie Van Halen ones).
Be sure to order 500k items as your guitar has humbucking pickups (250k is for single coils)

Find someone to practice with on a regular basis, who's got similar enthusiasm. Then aim to practice yourself every day, or almost every day, and you'll soon see your standard improve.
Your fingers will suffer at first, but you become somewhat immune as they harden. Simple lessons, chords etc, are on youtube, so search a few people on there, as some are better than others.
In a month of near daily practice, you will be totally in a different league. Good luck! |
