I'll just repeat what I said just as the last thread closed...

I've mentioned before the age gap between me & my OH, it's 24 years (25 years between April & July)

The issue others have with age gap relationships involving older men is outstanding

On finding out the age gap, my partners Mum went to a Police Station to check if I was on the sex offenders register

Because it is outside of social norms and most people find it quiet disturbing. Especially if the person has kids their age. If my mum got with a guy my age I'd not look at her the same and me and the guy would definitely not get on at all

You make it sound bad but everyone has their opinions and have ideas of what is right from wrong. To me it just seems wrong and that is why it is considered highly taboo. When I see age gap relationships they get a lot of attention. Me at 26 and my ex at 21. She looked like she was 14 and the looks that we got. Some people even thought she was my niece haha

Yes but social norms have changed in the time you've grown older.

We live in the time of onlyfans where kids are growing up to be like Nikki minaj and other strippers come 'pop stars'. We live in the time where money is seen as a shortcut to life. Where a girl dates an older guy for the money then leaves when she has enough.

Younger girls know that older guys will jump at the chance to be with her so will fully take advantage.

Lots of black and white viewpoints on this, unsurprisingly, as the issue most often is black and white.

There are the odd occasions though when the couple in question aren't, for instance, an ageing rockstar recapturing his mojo and a nubile golddigger, but just two people whose psyches are well matched in terms of emotional maturity and who have a relationship that works for the right reasons.

Personally as a man in his 50s I wouldn't look twice at a woman in her teens or twenties, I have daughters older than that. But I'd never dismiss a woman in her 30s even if that has the generational age gap, IF she's not a typical millennial but has values closer to my boomer ones (if we absolutely have to pigeonhole characteristics).

An 18 year old is an adult not a child. In many cases the level of maturity may be well matched.

I always think of cougars as more of a hookup/Fab scenario. I don't mind meeting sexy younger men but wouldn't want a relationship with one as we're at different life stages. In the past, men who have married younger women have been described as having trophy wives- so you could wonder why men with much younger partners are considered successful but women with much younger partners are described somewhat disparaging as cougars (people do remember they are predators too, right?)

If I had a child of any gender who was embarking on a relationship with a much older person (more than 10 years if kid was in their 20s) I'd question the motives but try to be supportive. But if someone in their 40s and was seeing someone 50+, I'd consider them both to be in a similar life stage that didn't require comment

"I'll just repeat what I said just as the last thread closed...

I've mentioned before the age gap between me & my OH, it's 24 years (25 years between April & July)

The issue others have with age gap relationships involving older men is outstanding

On finding out the age gap, my partners Mum went to a Police Station to check if I was on the sex offenders register

But I bet had it been the other way around and she was the older one it probably wouldn't have raised an eyebrow "

Not sure that’s true! My son is 19 and you can bet I’d have plenty to say if he came home with someone my age!

"What do you call a guy who gets a message on here who is the the granddaughter of a woman you met swinging over 35 years ago and wants to meet you?

Damaged

Who the granddaughter?

Yes. I love how older generations find it funny but it is quiet a common thing in the younger generations to see them as having daddy issues, being gold diggers or being taken advantage of. Maybe you should talk to more younger people

Or maybe she just wanted to know about her grandmothers life in the swinging scene form someone who knew her. Oh she is 27 now - or maybe her grandmother told her how incredibly good in bed I was and wanted to find out for herself "

Whatever keeps your ego active mate. Sure her dad will be happy haha

As would I be it a woman or a man that was older. There are a lot of female pedophiles in the news lately

Look .... you need to STOP.

Dating people younger than yourself doesn't make you a pedophile.

I never said that. I just said I understand why she would check. You really like to jump to conclusions without seeing the context

FFS that last statement is incredibly funny ...... but only as it actually left your lips before it even entered your brain.

Ok... I do see your point but it is a serious red flag at the end of the say. If you had a daughter that was say 18 and she was getting with a 30 year old. What would your reaction be? Groomer, pedo or genuine love?

An 18 year old is an adult not a child. In many cases the level of maturity may be well matched. "

Have you seen most 18 to 25 year olds these days? Haha I know I have and they're idiots. Yes I'm not perfect but I'm a damn sight better than a hell of a lot from 1995 onwards.

I've noticed that the older generations compare us younger people to how they were at that age. It is so different now

All old people were young once. None of this is new information to us.

Things haven’t changed that much, just moved online... "

But are you on Snapchat and tiktok?

If anyone wants to know what the modern world is like from a younger perspective I'd suggest listening an artist called Tom MacDonald. He gets a lot of hate because he slams the modern world and doesn't filter it like the rest of the world does. He speaks the truth and doesn't leave anything out.

Silver badger is cringey as fuck to be blunt.

Age only becomes a thing if the two choose to make it one (obvs legal age etc). People use cougar (which is equally dire) as a way of suggesting a woman is sexually aggressive, going for her prey and against social norms. Older men aren't going against social norms (which more often than not are bollocks in terms of relationships etc) because it's expected they will be attracted to young, attractive, fertile women like myself. Ergo, no silver badger needed.

It has a serious effect on the modern generations because they grow up having it slammed in their faces that if they aren't millionaires by 25 they're failures in life. That if they don't have a rolex, nice cars and big houses then they aren't living their best life.

The birth of social media makes young girls shame their bodies because they don't look like models that have been air brushed or had tens of thousands in plastic surgery.

I have noticed that the older generations that have taken to social media a lot have shown signs of insecurity.

The dawn of social media has caused a lot of depression and insecurity in the world.

manther

What does manther mean? A manther is the male version of a cougar, or a middle-aged woman who has the hots for younger men. Manthers are older men who pursue partners significantly younger than them.

"Silver badger is cringey as fuck to be blunt.

It's a lighthearted thread...or it should have been!!!!!

Yeah you lost that in the first thread OP. These things happen.

And it's people who answer with detail that's not needed is what changes it from fun to something else.. "

It's the internet. Did you really think that a contraversial thread like this wasn't going to turn into a huge debate between generations?

"Worth bearing in mind that this generation have lived their entire lives on social media! And are the first generation to do so!

Thank you

My son mentions this often and how this triggered a serious bout of depression he had last year (that resulted in 2 suicide attempts). He’s doing better now but I do worry about the effect social media has on developing young brains.

Rubbish. I have a very grounded beautiful size 14 24 year old who isn’t a millionaire and couldn’t give a toss about airbrushing and super models or plastic surgery.

With regards to the question, no idea but I hate any of those kind of labels, if anyone called me a cougar they’d be leaving swiftly at the next exit.

I never meant to sound that way. I look at stuff from a very rational prospective from facts that I have found out over time. I may be young but I have a plethora of knowledge. I feel like some older people rely on their experience too much so it blinds their rationality. Note how I said some.

I haven’t read the whole thread but it’s such a double standard…

Older men have dated much younger women for many generations before us and not been labelled.

Even now nobody bats an eyelid at a 50yr old guy dating a 25yr old woman… he gets high fives and good on you mate comments or no acknowledgement at all as it’s accepted.

A 50yr old woman dates a 25yr old and we are immediately labelled as cougars and a lot of the young guys are questioned as to why on earth they would fancy an old bird..

It goes back to misogyny & money… it’s status successful men can have whoever they want.. but rarely are women given the same status!

It’s all old fashioned bullshit & preconceived ideas & prejudices!

I’m older, look ok for my age enjoy the company of a good looking younger man and have no desire for a man of my age who more often than not had let himself go!.

And you just come across as a strongly opinionated old fashioned thinking person that doesn't respect today's younger generation. Your comment says as much. The amount of disrespect aimed at me as a younger person. I feel like you should do some research into people 40-50 years younger than yourself.

I know that a good engineer is great at communication. We communicate across multiple languages with maths as that is a universal language.

The issue is that people from older generations believe that the world hasn't changed as much as they expect from when they were younger. The internet wasn't even invented for most. Most had to go to college to learn how to use a computer. Now primary school kids are fluent in coding

That is where you're quiet wrong. Both genders get looked down on for different reason and a lot of younger people lose friends over it. Sometimes family. Same with older people.

It may have been like that a few years ago but more and more men are being looked down for it.

The world has changed people have not. Stop being so derogatory about people’s relationships based on a social construct that suits a narrative you are happy with.
