Happy sunny Sunday everyone
I have been a bit remiss and didn't check in on everyone during June and have almost let July slip away.
So, my foot injury from a running challenge in March has improved greatly and we are currently at the end of week 2 of a 16 week training plan for a flat course marathon in October.
Yes I am training in this heat and was out running at 5am for 8 miles with 737ft of ascent, before the heat zapped my energy levels.
How have you all been getting on with your training, activities and challenges?
I love hearing from you all, sharing and supporting each other has definitely helped me this year

New one rep maxes in bench and squat for me in June/July. Missed my deaflift as had a slight injury but its all better now
I'm hoping to start running again as parkrun starts to open up a bit more.
Calorie counting has seen a good 16lb loss for me so far so looking for that to continue. |

Really pleased to hear the minor injury has improved, you're doing really well with the weight loss.... very well done.
Do you have someone with you when you are weight training, like a spotting partner to help you? I train a lot with my boyfriend and I use him like a PT...bless him.
I calorie count too but am struggling to see a loss yet as I am regaining leg muscle but it will show soon, I just need to keep going and be patient.

Oh my word Dancer well done on your step challenge, that's a fantastic achievement.
The squats training will definitely help with hiking up Ben Nevis
It's great to have challenges to work towards, I am very much of that mind set.

1 million steps how long did that take?
Also, 100 squats/day? You'll have buns of steel.
Are you doing Ben Nevis as a charity thing or just with friends? The normal route up is the Pony Track (so called I believe as they used to use ponies to take supplies up to the weather observatory on top). Its a long though never difficult walk. Hope you get good weather as the views from the top are stunning with some of the biggest cliffs in Britain coming almost up to the summit. |

I went off-road wheelchairing on holiday. Pushed myself up/down rocky & steep cliff paths to little quiet beaches and went up and over massive rocks and other obstacles to explore archaeological sites and other sites of interest (photographic proof available!)
I got massive blisters on my thumbs and palms but it's one heck of a shoulder workout.
Everyone who passed me stared like I was clinically insane; some offered to help and were utterly perplexed when I politely declined (in three different languages).

Two months? That's 16,000 steps a day? How? Bloody good effort. Good luck with the squats and I hope you get good weather for Ben Nevis. I've been close to the top in blue sky weather but never had a view from the summit when I've been there.

Just my regular chair with a large helping of stubbornness and a sprinkling of bonkers-ness! Off-road chairs exist but they're super expensive and would be a pain to get on a plane, plus my regular chair. I'm astounded at what my chair is capable of, to be honest. I absolutely abused it - it's like a Hob Nob in a Peter Kay sketch: "again! Again! Again!" It's a brilliant "machine" |

Thank you. Not been riding since before hold but am going next week. We had a pukey child the weekend before hols (so no riding), then hols (2x Sat away) and we've been Covid pinged so no riding yesterday either! Next week, I shall be back in the saddle |

I run every morning before work usually do a 10 mile cross country run through my local fells however today I only managed 7 miles as I slept in and didn't go until 16:00 but the heat got the better of me still managed hour boxing just got my sweaty mess cleaned up feel all fresh now |

I’ve started running again, I want I get back to my fitness before Covid. I’m doing a wolf run in sept. And going to walk the Yorkshire coast trail over the winter period for a very and mental
Health charity, it’s only 90 miles shouldn’t take more than a few days |

I didn't know you were a fellow runner, do you run 10 miles everyday? If so that's a lot of running we did that amount back in January and it's a big commitment with work on top...well done to you.

Yay welcome back to running the wolf run looks tough with the obstacles, my upper body strength would definitely fail me but you will be just fine.
The Yorkshire coast trail sounds fantastic, will you be camping out too or just resting and continuing from checkpoints?

That's pretty impressive. Made me look at wheelchairs that are available and I've got to say, given the technology that's available in areas like mountain biking it's disappointing the level of design thought that's gone into these. It cannot be that hard to make a chair that will handle rugged paths etc and still be usable elsewhere. Obviously it wouldn't be a racing chair in the same way you could spend 10k on a top end mtb that would be useless on the Tour de France but something that's a happy medium can't be that difficult.

By keeping the daily distance down and camping out you will really get to enjoy the experience. That sounds like a fantastic challenge and something we are interested in trying one day.

I've settled into a groove...
I'm walking around 10km a day, doing 9 hours of classes through the week (nice mix of low /high impact)
I've also had my programme updated - I've just got my printed sheet, so i need to start to go back into the machine room on my free nights
Bizarrely though, I'm lighter, but.. Im bigger in size? |

Oh a fellow fan of a printed training plan here, mine is on the fridge and a pic of it on my phone... I love my plan.
You are on fire atm with your training, wow well done to you.
I understand your frustration of the size changes you notice in yourself... I am training more but not losing yet as my muscle mass is increasing. Once that settles then I notice a drop in weight.

I'm still running, the podcast I'm trying to follow is about running to a rhythm, starting with 150 BPM (steps per min), then up to 155 and finishing on 165. But I'm struggling and end up having to walking for some of it to get my breath back, however the walking is get less each time and I still manage to hit my 5k marker within 30minute run.

The podcasts are going to suit some but not all people. If you're struggling then I would suggest going for a run on a familiar local lap but increase your effort on the flat sections and then slow your pace on the uphill and recover on the downhills.
Try this a few times and you will notice that your lap times are improving as your fitness does.
My advice is to listen to your body, and slow the pace if you feel like you're struggling. You don't need to run at maximum effort all the time.

Still recovering
Squat upto 180kg for a comfy single, deadlift upto 220kg again comfortable, bench 145kg single and easy, which is surprising.
Looking good for next years competitions but still early days and a long way to go. 120kg to.add tonsquat, 80kg to deadlift and 55kg to bench.
Also got to put back on the 16kg that I've lost.
It's a big fucking uphill struggle I'm looking at.

But you're recovering and that's what is important. You are also increasing your weights incrementally as to not cause further damage but to build strength.
You will get it back, I am certain of it and we are all hoping you succeed.

Just start running again, go running in area of woodland near where I live for about 45 minutes doing several miles. Taking in nature at the same time, beautiful. I also do some dumb bell exercises lifting 29kg weights. Just prepping myself before I rejoin a gym later in the year. |

That's what I love about running, spending time outdoors, taking in the scenery and observing nature and life, and also calmness and tranquility.
