than taking?
I am not just talking about money/ charity but more about doing stuff for other people.
I am talking about listening to people in distress, doing little things for somebody who is in need.... but also sexually, making sure your partner is having a nice time. Anything really.... where we feel better about giving than taking? |

I think it's partly the feeling of making a difference. I read the love languages book, where they say everyone has different ways of expressing themselves:
Words of affirmation, quality time, physical touch, acts of service, and receiving/giving gifts
This might play a part in what you say. Word of warning though, if a gift person doesn't recognise the other is a touch person for example, then can cause friction! |

I guess because we evolved as a sociable animal in large groups we're hard wired to support and assist those close to us, just as we crave close physical contact. Sadly very many people now live quite isolated, solitary lives so reaching out to others is even more important for our own mental well being. |

As a registered professional who works in healthcare, I feel no day is complete unless I've done something for someone else; made their day that bit easier, eased them of discomfort , pain, or even just listening to them. 9/10 people I see daily , will only have me as their only visitor for the day so I try my best to give as much time as possible.
At the end of the day, A life isn't work living if it's not to help others in some capacity. |
