"Gravity "

I so wish I'd seen that in a cinema in 3D - the first 45 minutes would have been astonishing.

The visuals in Dune are amazing - I sometimes think it would have made a great silent film.

In no particular order (except the first one);

Blade Runner

Dark City (very under-rated film!)

Stalker

Videodrome

Starship Troopers

Escape From New York

Altered States

The Day The Earth Caught Fire

Quatermass & the Pit

Strange Days

If we are allowed escape from new York then can I add big trouble in little China.

I love Big Trouble! I left it out because it's a fantasy while Escape From New York is a future dystopia.

Zardoz, excellent! Sean Connery in a red nappy rolling down hillsides and the penis being mightier than the sword or something.

My pick, Solaris (Tarkovsky 1972, not the dumb remake)

Arguably the most important film ever made, and certainly the most important sci-fi film.

With exception to the original Star Wars trilogy, I would say the original battle star galactica, starfleet, Terra hawks, Flash Gordon, buck rogers, original v series.

It's the only film I've seen in 3D that was actually enhanced by it.

Blade Runner the minute I saw the fire in the eye, rainy Asian city scape and film noir vibe. I loved it.

Soundtrack is quite good as well.

But Rutger ‘tears in the rain’ just perfect

Maximillian is the villainous robot but the good robot is the little red one I think is being referred to here. But all the robots in the film are great - I just finished re-watching it for the first time in years.

I enjoy a wide range of Sci-Fi but my faves are definitely the dystopian 'nightmares' of the 70's and into the 80's such as:

Mad Max's

Rollerball

Soylent Green

A Boy and his Dog

Silent Running

Westworld

Logan's Run

THX 1138

Yes. Richard Stanley and he really nails the ‘fucked up future’ feeling in the film.

I love sci-fi and many of those listed above by others are favourites..

I’m surprised no one has mentioned Dark Star yet. An absolute classic.

Christ how could I forget forbidden planet.

Literally one of favourite films of all time, scared the shit out of me when I was a small boy.

Dark Star is another good shout.

Can I add Sunshine love the cinematography.

It's no where near my favourite franchise but I'm surprised that Star Trek hasn't been mentioned.

As for my favourite, Bladerunner, by a country mile.

2 guilty pleasures of mine are independence day and Battleship.

No I don't do favourites, I think theres so much more to see and experience and thats not including the things I don't know about, to possibly call something a favourite. Plus I'm terrible with names, more likely to see someone mention something and be like oo I liked that!
