On a day trip to the seaside a friend of mine bought a pot of whelks from a seafood seller.
Being adventurous I agreed to at least try one. Well, you don't know until you try do you!
I dislike seafood other than fish at the best of times, but wasn't going to wimp out until I SAW what these things looked like.
Basically raw large sea snails! Yuk.
He popped one on a cocktail stick, added salt and pepper and a little lemon juice and encouraged me to eat it.
I'm a celebrity get me out of here's bushtucker trials came to mind.
I closed my eyes, opened my mouth, and hoped for the best!
Focus on the flavour not the texture I told myself, whereas the flavour was reasonably o.k. to my palate, I was basically chowing down on the raw muscular foot of a sea snail and good grief it was rubbery.
Chomp chomp chomp I chewed the thing but it wasn't breaking down.
"Just swallow it" he said.
Mmmmmmmph mppphmhhh I grumbled pulling a face. And retrieved a tissue promptly from my pocket in which to dispose of the offensive molluscy mouthful.
"Come on swallow it, you didn't have any problem on our Wedding night!" My friend jested out loud well within earshot of a passing couple!
The man smirked at my friend and his partner looked shocked!
I just laughed my head off as this is the type of humour we share when we are out together!
So fabbers, what other activities do you close your eyes, open your mouth and hope for the best!
Keep it clean and creative IF you can!

I don’t close my eyes but on a first meet or date I definitely open my mouth and hope for the best. I’ve usually left my charming, witty brain at home and brought the awkward, nervous one along.   |
