I keep seeing that the forums are meant to be fun.
Are they meant to be? The very phrasing of that implies that they’re not always, so perhaps we should stop telling everyone what something is meant to be but isn’t always. A vibrator is meant to be a muscle relaxer, I’m not sure that it ever is!
Are the forums meant to be fun or are they something else?

I find the forums erratically...
Educational
Inspirational
Motivating
Interesting
Thought provoking
Emotional
Hilarious
Boring
Annoying
Eyebrow raising
...
'Fun: Amusing, entertaining or enjoyable.'
So yeah maybe 90% fun. |

"The forums are meant to be forums and like any forum their content is dictated by their members - simple as that...they're not "meant" to be anything else "
Then where is the basis for the term then?
I agree that the content is dictated by the users, in which case that’s what they’re meant for |

Your metric is based upon whether a person finds moving their eyebrows to be a source of enjoyment…

You'd have to ask the people that say it for the answer to that one, but my guess is they're not liking the content that they have found and use it as a throw away rather than actually taking steps to address it |

Meant to be fun to yourself maybe, as in something you do as a cheery distraction. Topics can be on anything but if you arent enjoying it it isnt fun and who wants to do something that makes them miserable when the whole idea is to be 'fun' I have no idea |

I tend to agree.
It can also be used as a dismissive phrase if someone dislikes postings |

I think they're meant to be whatever people want them to be and everyone is capable of choosing what posts they participate in to get the experience they want. Don't like something then move on or make your own. There's often a lack of personal responsibility when it comes to this subject with people thinking that everything they see has to be what they want to be on here. |

I sometimes think those who say it should be 'fun' are the ones who think it should always be light hearted and frivolous. 'Fun' usually goes hand in hand with 'don't take it too seriously'.
I find the forums 'fun' whatever the content or 'forum atmosphere'.
I find it all interesting and interesting is fun to me. Some days I find a light hearted thread fun and other times a serious thread fun. Occasionally it seems to drag but soon picks up again.
As others have said it's what the users make of it and I think there's a good mix of people on here. |

No it's meant for violence and aggression!!
Forums are to chat about anything. But sometimes the forum does get a bit full of negativity, or even threads that aren't meant to be suddenly go down that route.
Some people want to lift that and have a bit of both |

"Depends what the topic is I guess
That’s very true.
If they’re intended to be fun though, then many topics are pretty far of the mark"
I wouldn't say the forum is only supposed to be fun . Anyone can post a serious topic and if its a serious conversation then that's the whole point of that thread .
But yes I tend to veer towards the fun ones though |

The forums can be whatever that person wants them to be....I dislike some people in the forums but I wouldn't want them to stop adding to the forums....I have fun and arguments and I gain an insight into something I've just discovered.....I personally love the forums x |

I think it also depends on the type of person you are, I stay away from the serious posts and the attention seeking posts and the posts that are obviously made to get a rise out of people. It’s just not my thing .I tend to enjoy the light hearted posts . |

I think the forums should and are a mixture of what you find in everyday life.
I dislike" it's supposed to fun" comments (unless it's on an obviously fun thread). I find it dismissive of others and kind of a bit passive aggressive. Just because the more serious ones aren't your cup of tea doesn't mean you are right. You don't see people going on the fun threads saying the forum is supposed to be serious. |

"There's often a lack of personal responsibility" is the key phrase in there and one that can be applied to not only the forums but Fab as a whole - albeit that more often than not plays out on the forums |

I’m just here for the cock. If someone makes me chuckle along the way then great
But I actually prefer the more deep and meaningful threads as I don’t do “fun” in the typical sense, my sense of humour isn’t wired that way. So, lighthearted yes, but fun? no. |

Fun as has been said before in the forums is subjective. One or groups fun maybe someone else's hell.
And if you don't like it stay away attitude.
Forums should be fun is simply an over used term - chiche. Given that, some of the forums can be humerus, and informative, but let's be honest most are self serving - |

I suppose it depends on your individual definition of fun...personally I find the more serious debate threads more entertaining (and therefore more "fun") than the copious "poster above" and attention seeking threads.
We're all individuals, and should all be able to find something in this mixed bag that we find fun. |

If someone bitches that no one will message them , ghosting, time wasters, fantasists, then you have a sucky bunch of un fun topics. If it’s all about making a cake filled with loads of cream, then it’s party time. Oh I do like cake and easily pleased. |

The forums are what you want them to be, sometimes happy, sometimes sad, sometimes uplifting and sometimes just a free for all for others to have a go.
If you have an opinion on a subject, post it but be aware for some backlash if others don't agree x |

It’s actually in the opening paragraph of the forum rules - “Don't forget that the forums are meant to be fun….”
In black and white by order of the management!
Does that mean all the serious bods need a stretch on the naughty step? |

You can be a passive observer or continue in a style you desire people to engage with. You can be a moaner or influencer. Choice is yours;-)
There is no mission statement here. |

Again depends om your idea of fun, I enjoy deep thinking threads, I dont enjoy crass Objectifying ones.
So I avoid those, I suspect others avoid the deeper serious ones.
It may be a site aimed at sex but that doesnt mean every single post or topic a has to be inuendo bingo. |

Yes. Fun=enjoyment and we all enjoy different things. I enjoy more thought provoking threads as much as the silly ones. |

Fun is a very adjective term broadly used sometimes incorrectly, what can be deemed as fun to some can also be seen as bullying in the written sense to others.
However, having been an intermittent user of the forums over the last 3 or 4 years I have seen a variety of sides to them guided very much by the thread topic and have learned to stay in the forum waters that suit my buoyancy
So yes, they can be fun if you don't offend and don't interject into any subject you know nothing of
Me now sensing I should paddle off to the shallow waters now |

I've brought this up a couple of times when it is mentioned.
I even had somebody try to tell me "it's in the forum rules" so I asked them to tell me what they fun is, because I find discussion and debate fun. Even fairly heated and intense discussion but I can not stand the "person above" threads, they are not fun to me.
The person in question had no solid response to this.
As has been said, if you don't find enjoyment in something but can't handle it, don't contribute to a thread.
So yes, the forum should be fun, but dont try and dictate to me or anybody else what fun is to us. |

I have fun from interacting in serious debates. Therfore it fits in with the forum rules. |
