Quite frequently in the forums the one thing puts people of others is people with bad spelling and grammar.

So why does this make people useless at sex? As this is a adult site not a English exam.

My first thought would be and just like me. People may have spelling problems like dyslexia and people who don't think this way should be ashamed!

What do you fabbers think?

I suppose it goes to show that there's more to sex than just sex. All sorts of things can be attractive or unattractive to different people.

I'm one of the people that prefers good spelling, grammar and punctuation, but bad spelling etc. would be unlikely to put me off a person by itself.

As long as I can understand what is being said or asked, I don't have a problem. I admit I sometimes tease people if I feel they can take a teasing in a bit of banter.

Spelling or bad gramme isn't a turn off.. At least in my opinion. I do feel that good spelling at the very least show that there is some intelligence.

In the end though if it comes to the sexual side of things, as long as I can understand what's being said, and we have some sort of attraction, then nothing else really matters.

For me, as a person with mild dyslexia, bad spelling, or worse text speak, is a problem in that I can't always read or understand what is being said. But if I liked the person, it wouldn't necessarily put me off anything with them

Theres a difference between difficulty with, and laziness, I guess one gets mistaken for the other, sometimes, I am guilty of this.

If I feel its laziness, I kinda think its an attitude that doesn't turn me on, so I steer clear.

Only problem I have is reading text messages. Sometimes you miss understand what is being said and can easily take offense when none was there..

Apart from that I'm not bothered.

Most on the site use mobiles and predictive text, it's a curse.

People type too quick and do not read posts back, by the time they have the moment has gone "Guilty"

Spelling is often the wrong word correct spelling.

If your a kindle fan and you download a lot of free books, usually the spelling and grammar is atrocious.

Text speak is awful worse if the person talks the same way as they text.

It's more about content than presentation. Something 'badly' written but interesting to read will attract me more (and I have an automatic tendency to correct spelling mistakes and add punctuation in my head anyway).

I will sometimes make a humerous comment if the spelling mistake alters the meaning of the sentence to make it unintentionally funny/surreal.

If your first impression of someone is that they can't even be bothered to write a coherent sentence....or are too lazy to write properly...then its a fail.

Why even respond to someone who isn't even trying?

Because it may be that they are dyslexic, they may have not spellchecked, there may have been an autocorrect, or they genuinely may not know.

It doesn’t reflect on them as a person imo.

I dont think this place is an english exam and also know some people struggle with things like dyslexia, so there are genuine reasons.

Probably biased but i like someone who can form sentences in a certain manner. Text speak and shorthand make me cringe. It wss how i was brought up, even in the days of early mobiles.

The odd text speak like lol and whatnot are fine but i dont want a message i need to decrypt to understand...

each to their own. Some love it

I'm dyslexic. If the odd spelling or grammar error puts someone off me then so be it. A pet hate of mine is people who use spelling or grammar corrections to discredit someones point without actually countering the point in any way. Its just lazy and shitty. By all means be quietly annoyed by spelling and grammar errors but the superiority complex some have over mastering primary school level English without any learning disability or language barrier is astounding.

There’s some truth to that but it misses the main points. The way we are taught to read as children Is flawed and inefficient for adult life , reading every letter of every word left to right is slow and hard work, it’s much better to keep your eyes still and learn to scan whole paragraphs for 1-2 seconds then moves both eyes down you can a full page in 10-15 seconds quite easily . If you use special cardboard templates over text to hide words you can read well seeing about one in every 5 or 6 words. You can read much faster and when your brain has less info abd has work to do, because brain is like muscle , you exercise it by hiding or ignoring words or misspelling them - not only can you read faster but will retain and understand much more.

Yes definitely I am dyslexic and what your talking about the hidden off letters and such was a think that they had me do they had to untrain my head for what I was teached in schools and train it to read in another way and this is the exact way

I'm guilty of being a spelling and grammar nazi and unapologetic for it, it's right there in my profile.

Although the odd typo or syntax booboo doesn't put me off, a whole tranche of incoherent gibberish does; if somebody can't communicate verbally I'm not going to be convinced by their non-verbal skills.

It doesn't make people useless at sex, far from it. It's just another way for people to decide actually, yeah, I really want to fuck Bob because he can wistfully witter on about wanking without wrong interpretations. It's like some people will see a photo and think, nah, I don't want to have sex with that fat bird. Fair enough, you do you.

For the most part I overlook grammatical errors, spelling mistakes because fuck knows I make them on here. When I'm in a savage, pretentious mood (my period) I'm more likely to be a bit scathing of a "wont 2 suk dis?".

There's more to sex than just sticking it in. They want intellectual discourse too.

Rightly or wrongly, bad spelling indicates someone who's uneducated, might be a bit thick and probably not going to give them the intellectual discourse they desire.

However, as you know, dyslexia has no relation to a person's intelligence or intellect.

However, unless they know you're dyslexic, you might fall by the wayside to judgements previously mentioned.

You can usually tell if someone is dyslexic though, but that could just be me and what I do for a living.

Surely it does reflect though? It reflects on communication ability - which is how a connection which leads to chemistry might be established.

I agree it should not be used to entirely write someone off - but as has been said many times here - people have preferences and that’s their choice and right. Rightly is wrongly “spellins” are a part of that preference pick and mix for some.

Also think that the converse is true. I’d wager that there are some would would read this wordy response and give the poster a swerve on “wow, you must be fin at parties” which is their prerogative and no sh1ts will be given

Dyslexia I think might explain some. But it can only excuse letter arrangement and maybe word order. Can’t excuse writing complete gibberish can it?

I try not to judge people generally in life. I am more likely to be put off by a person pointing out someone’s errors that by the person making the errors.

I have a couple of friends on here who I chat to who have issues with spelling and grammar, one I know is due to dyslexia, however the content of their conversation is good so I can see past any spelling or grammatical errors.

For me it’s whether I can understand and engage with the person. I’m not here to find errors with peoples spelling or grammar. I know I’m not perfect and I don’t expect others to be.

Kx

I said this last time this topic came up

"Dislexic or not, it's good practice.

And I'm quoting a good friend with dyslexia on that one. I actually had a conversation with them about this not too long ago.

Spelling mistakes happen, especially thanks to typos, and the speed some people type. I've fallen foul to it plenty of times. The consistency of the mistakes, that is more important, you can tell the difference between dyslexia and somebody who just doesn't give a fuck over a few messages.

It's about effort and care in what you are saying, take the time to say it correctly, word it correctly, and present it correctly.

Especially if it's a first message, read it over a few times."

It doesn't turn me off or make me question somebody's sexual ability, but it has its place as part of a selection process yes.

This is just like any other preference, so perhaps it shouldn’t be so readily dismissed as people being pedantic or judgemental?

Yes there are dyslexics of varying degrees on here, some manage to handle it better and some struggle. There are also others who struggle with the written word for other reasons. That’s fully understandable and should be accepted.

If a person doesn’t like grammatical errors though and if seeing there/their/they’re mixed up puts them off, then that’s just as justified as any other preference surely?

I hate the grammar police, instant turn off, seriously. I am quite articulate and wordy in written and spoken form, but never look down at those with bad spelling. Exactly for the reason you describe, could be dyslexic or have any other hidden disability or condition.
