"How is it you can meet up with a few mates from different households in a pub and sit right next to each other, but you aren't allowed to play pool in a pub without a mask on?"
Because you aren't playing pool sitting down.
You're supposed to have a mask on unless seated. |

Yep. Which is why common sense should come into play. Those people have accepted you might infect them to sit at a table with them.
Get a spray bottle of water.
Give it a squirt from sitting down height and standing up height. The particles travel further at standing up height.
Now, if that water was your cough/laugh/etc from standing up playing pool unmasked, it would travel a greater distance.
Make sense? |

Anyone who's ever used air freshener will know it.
Plus at the table you're less likely to be raising your voice to one another and hopefully using a speaking voice, unless you're an inconsiderate nobrot who lacks social skills and etiquette. (You know the tables, people around them eye rolling and wishing they'd been seated somewhere else)
And in speaking voice, your breath and germs ain't travelling as far. |

"Slightly off subject but there was a pub near me that advertised 'FREE POOL DURING WEEK' on a blackboard outside. Some joker rubbed out the L and K."
Pretty clever I thought! |

I have been playing pool for nigh on 40 years and in that time the only times I raised my voice was to cheer on the player of the team I was in and I was sitting down at the time.
But if you look at the European Championships, there are literally thousands of fans sitting in close proximity to each other, not wearing masks and when a goal is scored everyone is shouting and hugging anyone close to them whether it be someone they came with or not. Now you'll probably say that it's ok if they do that cos it's outside, but the germs will still carry in the air, probably even further if its windy. |

Why would I say that?
I don't know each individuals health status. I don't know if you have to provide negative tests etc.
I wasn't agreeing or disagreeing with anything, merely telling you the reasoning behind the rule. |

Ok sorry, I wasn't really having a go at your reasoning, I was more having a go at how stupid different situations are and how they're enforced.
See where I live, in Shetland, the amount of the population that's had 1 vaccination is 93% and the amount that's had 2 vaccinations is 88%. Now if you take that into consideration, knowing that the ones that haven't been vaccinated are mostly kids and aren't allowed in a pub anyway. Shouldn't we be trying to get back to normal, rather than having to keep putting up with rules that don't make sense.
Here's an even worse case, there's loads of people on fabswingers that are having sex with random strangers with no idea whether they have covid or not. Isn't that worse than standing at a pool table without a mask on? |

It ain't about what other people are doing to have peace of mind you're following your own rules and those implemented in businesses.
Just because the lady at number 32 lets her daughter go out in a skirt so short her flaps are showing doesn't mean I'd let my daughter do the same.
This is the whole point to making our own decisions.
Same as on here, there's a ton of liars and cheats etc. Does that mean I'm gonna lie or cheat coz other people do? Does it fuck, I think it's grim and I'll stick to the stuff that let's me drift off that night knowing if I die in my sleep the only shock people will get is that I'm dead, not what they may discover about me afterwards that may change their opinion or perception of me.

Here, the two people playing don’t have to wear masks during the game, but do have to sit down in between shots! The pool balls, rests if used and table are supposed to be cleaned in between each game. Pool leagues aren’t starting back up yet because it would mean 16 people in the pubs near the table, yet it’s ok for 30 people to be around it on a Friday and Saturday night! Makes no sense at all!! |
