Serious Illness and Fitness

Having had cancer from my late teens into my early twenties and following this an extreme level of serious illness incorporating poor mobility/low immune system. My only way out of this was to rebuild my fitness and push through my body’s failings and limited capabilities. The process of finding a gym was soul destroying. A lot didn’t understand what I wanted and took the money and run. Eventually I became overweight, technically obese, pre diabetic and my health was set to get worse. My health condition had reversed but my health was dangerously low. Then I found a gym that worked and found a love of lifting weights. COVID hit, so that was put on hold, but I started lifting dumbbells at home and over the course of a year I went from over 16 stone to just over 13 stone, transforming my body. I haven’t gone back to the gym yet, put on a little weight, but still lifting at home. Looking forward to going back to the gym and reaching my goal of getting a six pack after years of serious ill health. I am on fab, more for the forums, than anything, not really expecting much on meeting people, just nice being on here and excited about what the future holds.

well done, i the male, have had serious cancer, then a car crash left me with a head injury which led to epilepsy, add to that arthritus, im in for a double knee op th a week or so, and have to walk atm with sticks, ive also found keeping fit hard, i everyday go for a walk, as far as i can manage , i do have to take strong pain killers first, ive modified my diet so i havnt gained weight, i know its very easy to sit at home and comfort eat, just for referance, i used to be supper fir and compeat in iron man compotitions, ive lost weight, mostly muscle, im hoping that once my knees dont hurt so much, fingers crossed, i can get back to being fit, as you do combat ilness better when fit, i also have a poor imune system due to the above, forinstance my gp made me have 3 covid jabs, and maybe need another, they check my bloods regularly to check. so all the best op, life can be hard sometimes, the trick is to face it head on and not let it get you down, not easy i know
