Been using various gyms for many years and seen it all.
But now we use a specific gym that isn't usually full of meatheads with spindly legs and biceps like basketball's.
But since gym reopened our gym is now full of arseholes who seem intent on giving themselves hemorrhoids through trying to lift more weight than they can ever possibly can then this current trend of throwing the weight on the floor is frankly annoying.
Are you one of these or does your gym have it's meatheads? |

Anyone throwing weights regularly has no concept of how much they cost. Shame on them.

Yeah, I think every gym has them. My gym isn't too bad, but there's always a few.
Got one who puts towels on 3-4 pieces of equipment and therefore you can't use them for his half an hour of circuit (I just move them)
Got quite a few who scream like banshees as they drop their 10kg dumbbells as if they're competing for Olympic gold
And of course the endless bicep curls, complete with flexing and kissy face at their biceps... On the fucking deadlift platform. I get you got guns, but take them somewhere else. |

Good point, most probably don't even realise,I'll admit to being a bit of a grunter in my younger days.

Always going to be egos in the gym where ever you train. Personally I prefer smaller, more dedicated body building gyms with guys and girls that compete and live the lifestyle. Sure we get the odd skinny lad screaming while he trys curl the full cable stack but at least people train their legs there!

Of the 2 gyms I use, the "meathead zones" are either on a different floor or far corner, so I don't see much of them. I won't use any weights over there because of the stnech of testosterone.
Sometimes a few venture over to the functional area and leg machines that I use, but mostly I we don't cross paths.
I have noticed a rise in really loud grunters (men) and show ponies (women). |

I genuinely thought someone was doing cpr last week... I could hear them shouting 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10.. I sprang into first aider response then realised it was some eeejit on a bench |

You know the type I mean. Pastel coloured Gym Shark leggings and crop top, perfectly straightened hair left down, full face of make-up and they walk in holding a Starbucks frappuccino. Fanny about for 30 minutes, mostly taking photos and looking in the mirror, then leave having not broken a sweat |

I used to go to a 'meathead' gym (i hate this term) i found it intimidating as i was 9.5 stone at the time.. quite honestly i found most of them really nice helpful guys yes most were power lifters, made noise, lifted bar bending weights... but they were a lovely bunch.
I go david lloyds now as i wanted more from a gym, im a shade under 14 stone now with a 9% bodyfat, yes i wear a vest & bend the bar daily, and hit one rep bests... im intrigued though does this make me a meathead? |

Today absolutely pissed me off. Someone was using one of only 3 squat racks for 20 minutes to do shrugs all fucking things, and when I was finally able to use a machine I had people coming up to me asking how many sets I had left when I just got on it.
I came so close to just telling everyone who asked me to just piss off and leave me to it until I was done

My gym only has one meat head, me, it's in my garage
When I trained in commercial gyms I never really paid much attention to others.
Some lifts you cant help but drop the weight. Clean and press, why waste energy putting it down gently, it's all about getting it above your head, save my energy fir that part of the lift. Trying to put 120kg + down from that quietly isn't easy. |

You can train hard but do it in a way that respect's other users.
I've trained in gym's with world class power lifter's and strongmen and most of these guys are usually really good chaps. There's always the odd bell end. |

Never needed to go to the gym but I suppose I dont have to do with the job I do.
After lugging a full pallet of sand and cement bags down peoples drives.
lifting 4 24ft 12x4" wood beams carrying them down the drive with 30 14ft of 4x2s.
8x4 100mm insulation sheets ackward to bloody carry wind catching annoying things.
90 6x3 plasterboard sheets
Stacking them ready before the job starts then to rip roofs off fast.
Get the beams up 3 floors and the 4x2s
Then you wonder why I dont go to a gym |

Surely if you have to go that heavy on the shrugs you've just completed the exercise. But to use one of the busiest parts of the the gym for a remedial exercise that you can use dumbbells for is just inconsiderate. |

I started going to the gym for the first time this week, I’ve been 3 times and haven’t seen any gains yet, feel like I’ve just wasted £40 on membership. |

I always preferred "meathead" gyms when I used to lift, most people that trained there was always really friendly and helpful, they'd shout over to me to watch my form, and show me new exercises. Yes, the loud grunting can be a tad annoying at times, but the good parts of it far outweighed that. |

The bellends ive experienced is anyone who doesnt put weights back this really boils my piss. As said above i drop weights occasionally especially on my one rep bests as its not worth a twist injury putting them down. Sumo deadlifts are another which make noise which is inevitable. |

Shoulder shrugs primarily target the upper trapezius muscle and you are also hitting synergistic and stabilizing muscles, including the middle trapezius, levator scapulae and erector spinae...... |

I’m in one of those 247 unstaffed gyms where cleaners pretend to be PTs and stare out the window bored or chat up women while their clients do things with ridiculously bad form and probably injure themselves. |

You see way back it was common place to allow and ask to jump in between set's.
It's something I haven't seen for years and don't think people would understand if I asked the trick is to ask people who are using roughly the same weight as you and doing the same exercise. |

The guys who built my extension are the strongest lads I've come across... shifting RSJ's and 7ft glass panels is no mean feat...!
I had a few hours on a breaker when I built the patio, I take my hat off to anyone who runs one of those day in day out... |

The only time I shrug is a like a pre exhaust warm up for shoulder pressing to get them nice and warm. I do 3x20 with 60 - bar plus two plates not dumbbells. Is that a bad idea? |

On the first point, incorrect, weight is relative to an individual, many guys I know can shrug way more than that.
The rack isn't just for squats.
I use it for benching, squats, pin presses, banded deadlift and bench, the list goes on, all perfectly acceptable in the rack. |

Im always happy to let others join me on the rack, however, if I was there first you train the same exercises, at the same pace and if you have loads of weight to take off because I'm lifting heavier than you then you do it |

Nah it's a great idea, clearly works for you . It's good to change it up at times too, so maybe superset the press with shrugs. You'll feel more burn. Keeps the body guessing! |

Curls in the rack deserves a clip round the ear though
Surely if you have to go that heavy on the shrugs you've just completed the exercise. But to use one of the busiest parts of the the gym for a remedial exercise that you can use dumbbells for is just inconsiderate.
Do you know many gyms with 80kg+ dumbbells?
I'll continue to use the rack for them when I do them
And I maintain that shrugs that heavy are completely unnecessary and inconsiderate to those want to use it for its actual purpose

I must admit I'd be seriously pissed off if I wanted to do squats and the one rack was used by the same person for over an hour during peak times.

I had a few hours on a breaker when I built the patio, I take my hat off to anyone who runs one of those day in day out..."
rsj's are heavy but I can lift those up to 2/3rds of my height and blocked up ready for next lift.
There easy if you know how to lift them, but getting them up 3 floors is fun on the scaffolding same as wood beams.
Window plate glass is the worst to take out or replace.
those breakers im light weight and Its fun to keep it down. |

Just back from the gym after leg day. Full of ex powerlifters who are dead chilled out, return weights and occasionally scream. Got asked to film a guy squatting as he wanted to check his form...well that's what he told me.
No point getting worked up over the gym. Head down, work hard and get out. |

Some people enjoy the gym, some need it to compete in numerous strength sports that they enjoy. Thousands of professional sports people use them as part of their chosen profession.

I don't like swimming, O don't have a physical job but do walk everywhere as a non driver. I like challenging my body and having a gym membership means I'm more motivated to go and use the facilities that I'm paying for. Is that really daft? |

Probably not, if that's what you are happy spending your money on. I wouldn't be but I've never liked gyms or the gym scene so I am biased.
I struggled a bit over calling others 'daft' and realised that it might not go down too well but stuck with it because I've used the word in other examples of people doing things which I can't understand or see the point of. I won't list examples and trigger further wrath.
'Daft' is a relatively inoffensive word in the grand scale of things. I 'doubt if many fights have broken out after someone calls another 'a daft halfpenny worth'! |

I do make abit of noise when im lifting heavy but the gym i go is an old school type gym so its normal there really, in my opinion there are gyms and there are fitness centres |

If you’re shrugging 140kg or above it’s fine to use the squat rack. Some gyms haven’t got dumbbells that go past 50kg.
I wouldn’t really class a squat rack as an assisted machine. It’s just a bar, weights and clip ons . Hahaha by the way I’m one of those guys that does it |

We did for a while when there was a government initiative offering free swims for pensioners.
It is now well over a year since I last went to the public pool but from memory the concessionary rate wasn't much above £2.
Currently I'm swimming at Eureka and when I break even on my Gold membership it will only cost me my petrol. |

As pointed out above, strongman, powerlifting, weightlifting, bodybuilding etc. all require a gym,not everyone just wants to keep fit, plenty compete and cant do so with just training at home |
