Something you have done this year which made your life instantly better
Jump to: Newest in thread
Is there something that you have done this year which made the quality of your instantly better this year?
In my case there might be a few things but the ones that stand out are:
1. Finally getting a period cup. Why, oh why did I wait so long to do it? It literally has removed some major reasons why I dislike having periods and I love my new-found freedom
2. Making a New Year's resolution to get rid of the messaging app which has been bought by the major social networking giant. I've hated it for years and have made previous attempts at escape but had to get it back due to important contacts or groups not willing to use other means of communication. They have faded away for different reasons recently and this year I have finally made my escape. |

I have started meditating first thing in the morning and I feel that has helped me get my day off to a good start.
The blue window cloths from Aldi have changed how clean I can get my mirrors, and that has always been a point of frustration for me.
I can't seem to get my windows perfect, maybe because there are so much more of them, but my mirrors tend to be streak free now thank you Aldi!

"I changed jobs, no longer working for the biggest oil and gas company in the world has eased my social conscience a lot"
Significant change, that - can literally make the whole year and not only just one either. |

I know! It is those small solutions sometimes - I remember the intense satisfaction when I got my first eye mask for £2.50 I think it was, what a difference it made to the quality of my sleep in the early hours of the morning! Then later ear plugs (which was actually due to 1.5 year torture of having terrible neighbours), it became such a habit that I haven't slept without a mask and ear plugs in years |

Being and accepting where I am right now. Not always but progress not perfection right?!
Having always been the driver ... and trust me there are a lot of places I think I should (could's a nicer word) be driving to, fast!
metaphorically speaking of course |

Mentioning vinegar - I am trying it now on limescale and it really works. Somewhat surprising as not all home remedies actually work. Apparently, bleach only reduces the appearance of water deposits rather than removing them (or else discolouring them in pink or even brown!). The only problem with vinegar is that it is so thin and cannot really be sprayed and left to work the magic. I've been thinking of thickening it with arrow root but not sure how that would turn out
Bicarbonate of sofa and aluminium foil have already worked wonders for my recently acquired vintage tea set - my maid of all work managed to make it look like new. It did involve some strenuous polishing on his part, so much the better I'm sure |

Rekindling a spark with someone that grew into a flame over lockdown.
He makes my life instantly better in so many ways.
Finally getting my ass in gear to begin a diet and excercise program. (Thanks to the help and encouragement from my partner as well!)
I have currently lost 1 stone 4 and half pounds.
I still have a way to go, but already I am feeling better about myself and can fit into some clothes I haven't been able to wear for a couple of years. |

Oh, I have another - starting to go to naturists's spas once they have opened again (one of them is a new discovery). I think I have been completely converted to the joys of naturism, marred only by the harrassment - I look forward to the change of culture when it is possible to feel truly relaxed and welcome at naturist's places. |

Substantial changes! I hope that both will prove to be gifts that keep on giving, so to speak. |

This might seem random, but getting wireless headphones.
The ability to just sit outside on a night, even a cold one, sip a drink and listen to good music has been a god send.
Strangely I would have never done this before because of the faff of the wire and plugging it into my phone for music. Strange. |

There and to the left a bit |
End of January I stood on the scales and got a shock that I was almost back to a weight I was at 5 years ago that I thought I'd not see again
After a bit of thought I came to the realisation that I was eating crap and not exercising (in fact was leaving the house once a week to go to the supermarket) - started walking daily for at least an hour and watching what I eat more...
....this morning I stood on the scales and am 3 stone lighter than I was in January, which was my target!!
Not only that I feel so much better in myself not only physically but mentally too - my walks are a great mind clearer. Have chalked up 1300km in that time too |

I do use vinegar for a lot of cleaning solutions, and in my laundry, but it just didn't help enough with the mirror. Incidentally a great tip (which is kind of strange) is when limescale as built up on on chrome, like taps etc, rub it with a copper coin like a 2p.
I'm amazed at how much comes off. |

In the last twelve months I’ve had seven procedures, making up four surgical outcomes.
That for me, has been life changing.
I can’t say the results are instant because the full recovery times are around a year for each but waking up knowing each was done made me cry with happiness and relief.
I’m having a small procedure under local anaesthetic tomorrow to neaten up the scars now things have been healing for 11 months.

I did two things, I started a journey towards vegainism and zero waste. Some of my friends laugh and think it’s an odd thing to do, you either have strong beliefs and convictions put them into action, or you like the idea but are weak willed. But I know how my mind works with change and it’s right for me, it will take years and I might never fully achieve it, but it’s made a huge impact already |

Well done on the weight loss. I’ve dropped 2 stone since February but would like to move another. |

Have confronted lots of monsters that I kept inside face on, and it turned out to be the best thing I could have done for myself x x
I feel lighter and even if it isn’t over yet with the struggle I deal with daily, I feel like I can hold my head high and smile for who I am x |

Similar here - had hummed and hahed about whether to get some then had enough points in a work reward scheme for a decent pair so went for it and glad I did - makes everything so much easier.
My only slight gripe is I have fairly big earholes so even the largest buds aren't quite the right fit and have had them drop out as I'm walking or am forever adjusting them |

Well done! Walking is not to be underestimated, in general movement and exercise are not only great for fitness but also for giving a constant mini boost to the overall wellbeing.
I have been doing dance workouts partly as a substitute for real dancing and it has been making a big difference. |

Soak kitchen towel in vinegar and lay it on the limescale. If it’s in the toilet you’ll need to empty the water out first.

"Got a bean to cup coffee machine instead of pods or instant. Absolute game changer. "
I have succumbed to a similar temptation and obtained an electric coffee grinder. I already have an Espresso coffee pot (the old fashioned kind that boils on the stove).
Cannot say that there is such a pronounced effect but it must depend on the quality of the beans I suppose. Naively I thought that beans in themselves (rather than ground coffee) would already make an improvement, even if they are the cheapest Now I have some new supply of supposedly good quality beans so my hopes are high |

Ahh, yes the beans make a huge difference and there's so much variety as well. I was subscriped to a monthly coffee subscription where they send out a different coffee each month for you to try. Great way to find out what kind of coffee bean you like best! |

Ah yes, that is one of the methods I read about - just not sure if I am ready to sacrifice my kitchen towels for the cause! Hence my "genius" idea about thickening vinegar with arrow root. Or else I could just get one of my servants to scrub for half an hour, although this is not a priority right now when I have shoes that need polishing and my feet to be massaged |

I went for the over ear types. I don’t think I’d necessarily wear them out in public, but ideal for using at home. |

Changed jobs and escaped a psycho MD (I say changed, I found a new job after they ran the company into the wall)..
Also got a Bean to Cup coffee machine (Jura) as I was missing proper coffee and am home for the forseable.
I agree that the quality of the beans, as well as the right grind and temperature are key to a great espresso, check out some of the smaller indy rosters like 2 chimps for good uk roasted beans.
Both have been amazingly possitive in a year that's been so tough otherwise.
On a side note, getting back into Fab and chatting with people has been lovely, as I had drifted for a year or two due to not being in the right head space with my old job - I feel I can once again meet people (now vaxd) and BE fun, as I was a misery guts before and didn't think people would want me bringing down a meet.. |

I have challenged myself mentally and physically with my running.
In January I completed a virtual event to run 268 miles in a month.
In April I attempted to run 100 miles in 48 hrs. I achieved 82 miles in 41 hrs but had to stop as I had a stress fracture in my right foot.
Each event tested my physical ability and fitness but more so my emotional mind, to push on when absolutely physically exhausted from lack of rest or sleep and food intake issues. I amazed myself and my family with my determination and sheer bloody mindedness to not give up.
My broken foot has healed, my fitness is returning and my next event is a marathon in October.
I have learned so much about myself and look forward to pushing myself more.

I've never been out and met so many people, given me a massive confidence boost and I'm looking forward to the fun it will bring to my usually dull life. |
