Afternoon fabbers and fabbettes...

Just a question not a comment

Should your profile be visible whilst on the forums?

If you post in the forums then you should be visible just to other posters?

Again just a question and not a comment x

Why do you think that?

What does impact does having a hidden profile have on their forum posts other than people can't be nosey or attempt to use the information on their profile in response to their comments?

I think it doesn't make a jot of difference unless they ask for profile advice. Then it's kind of key to have your profile visible

No. Just because someone is posting on the forum it doesn’t invite people to look at them or message them.

I don’t see the link personally

No I don't think it should .People hide their profiles for lots of different reasons and I don't see why a hidden profile should not be allowed to post in the forum's.

You don't need to see a profile in order to respond to a comment they make people look at profiles for a nosey about the person. And you can always make a note on a hidden profile anyhow if it's a concern. But I really don't see why a hidden profile is that big a deal on here.

Not generally, no.

I might check someone out if their avater intrigues me or if their location is nearby maybe. But I don't think everyone should be visible by default if they post on the forums.

If a forumite wants to be hidden then it should in theory make zero difference to the depth and quality of their post much the same as being blocked by people in my humble opinion.

Definately, and I do it, if the profile his hidden no biggy...i have messaged people to tell them i think they're funny and what not

But the forums feel different to me, they seem more authentic and real. Not saying profiles aren't, but profile pics and text can create an image, that image is molded by the looker and reader. Inferences, tones conatastions are subconsioulsy heard.

The forums I find are more organic and fluid

There and to the left a bit

I sometimes look at profiles off the back of forum posts for exactly the reasons you suggest OP - however if they are hidden it's not a problem, I just accept that for whatever reason they've chosen to hide their profile and click the back button without a second thought.

I absolutely don't think they should have to be unbidden to be on the forums, their profile their choice how they use it - doesn't impact anyone if they're hidden, so not sure why you would want it otherwise?

Can probably get a 'better' feel for a person from their forum posts than from a profile.

I'll sometimes look at profiles (any gender/sex) of forum posters but if hidden so be it - I'd still message them if I had something to say that I didn't want to be said on the forum even if hidden.

You answer my question first lol what does what they are looking for in terms of meets etc which is essentially what the profile element is for, give you that is extra to their forum posts? How does it factor in to your experience of them on the forums?

I'm a big fan of a certain person on the forums, she makes me howl with laughter so I'm glad I clicked her profile because I found her funny videos..and that gave me an insight to her sense of humor and how she posts on the forums...if it was a hidden profile her post may have come across differently....again not saying people cant hide profile on forums...its a question to start a thread x

But your question/statement was....

'If you post in the forums then you should be visible just to other posters?'

I get it was possibly a bit of a devil's advocate question buy people are responding to that and saying no.

It kind of reads that you think, or suggest, that in order to post on the forums you should have your profile visible and people don't want that.

Surely her humour in her posts gives you an insight in to how she posts on the forums? Or anyone for that matter.

Exactly. For me it's about time managment. Reducing my frustration ie I looked at your pics and messaged you either not reading my profile or worse ignoring it.

I saw a post here not long ago where someone did a time analysis of replying deleting looking at profiles leading on from message.
