Country every-time.
Despite the daily sycophantic show of unwavering love of their team, so few players, managers and even owners care about their current club or fans it’s hard to even ague why we follow a “team” rather than individual players and managers. |

Likewise OP, whenever the big tournaments come around I revert to being totally England for the duration.
Come August though it’s all about your club team though innit?
My team are shit though so I never have much to celebrate! |

oh no who do you support???"
The not so mighty Southend Utd and the even shittier La Berrichonne de Chateauroux but at least the Berri have been brought out by a lovely rich Arab.
I spent thirty years following England home and away in Europe which is why I choose club but Southgate is bringing my affection back again bless him.

Ah I’d have to say country only cause Ireland are abysmal over the last 10 years ! And it would probably take a doping scheme 10 times more elaborate then Armstrong !
I think even then we would just be able to stumble over the ball quicker and start more fights cause of roid rage ! ! Ha
Point is cause it would never happen the problem is you have to score goals on your opponents and these last few years !.......
Yeah it’s been tough to watch !
course I’m gonna say country tho ! !

There and to the left a bit |
A tough call and would be interesting to have seen the same question posted back in November or December and see how different the answers would be, away from the fervour of England being two games away from winning a trophy.
I think I'd probably have to go with club as I have more of an emotional tie to them - regardless of the competition my heart sinks whenever we lose - whereas England I only tend to get excited about during major competitions |

If I chose country, I’d wait until the World Cup to influence an England victory.
Until then, It’ll have to be back-to-back Champions League victories for Forest Green Rovers - who wouldn’t want to see that!? |

Can’t stand England fans (and that bloody band) and I’m English. So club for me, I’d even take the FA cup at the moment.
You can keep chanting two World Wars etc…playing the Dambusters theme and singing three lions, whilst carrying your patriotic copy of the Sun newspaper. I’ll support my club instead ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

Club for me every day of the week! As a Leicester fan I don’t see any better run clubs around and what they do for us fans is unbelievable…I’ve seen everything with them over the last 30 years and although I obviously do want England to win the euros, I just can’t get as excited as I am when watching Leicester! |

some good answers thank you to all that have replied looking at the answers theres a few that seem to have no interest at all or even a dislike of the national team why is that?
I can understand putting the club first as thats what you watch week in week out all over the country in some cases but theres a lot of people saying they have no interest in the national side at all
is that because you think of it as lots of nationalism like a brexit thing all england fans are racist or sexist or what not or something else ?? Haha

Honestly Kev, imagine going to an FA Cup Final with your club. Your football club, a place every other Saturday you see the same faces and carry on your match day routine, pint a pie or whatever you do.
But this Saturday you’re off to Wembley with those same faces but this is like one of those School trips, excitement in the air, butties, flask of tea or something stronger and the long coach journey on the Motorway singing songs, laughing and joking the whole way down but with people you sort of know …as you nod your head at them before the game.
Get to Wembley and it seems that it’s your club scarves and flags lining the route, through the turnstiles and find your seat. Pay too much at the bar for a warm pint in a plastic cup and wonder why they don’t serve pies to watch your team with half of your town in London for the day.
If you win the long journey home won’t take to long with the laughter and celebration. Lose and it will take forever
Either way the next Saturday at the match those guys your nodded your head at, are now new mates with joint memories of that day at Wembley.
That or …support England with a bunch of people you’ll never see again, with a useless band playing the same tunes endlessly. Plus we are bound to lose at penalties
Always Club mate for me ![](/icons/thumb_up.png) |

I know loads of supporters of the bigger teams and ask them, they’re more concerned that their best players getting injured and being out for the season.
Would a Liverpool fan want another Premiership title or England a Euro title. I lived in Liverpool believe me it’ll be the Premiership every time. Same with any of the supporters of the teams that could win a big trophy.
I’ll be watching it tomorrow I hope we win, then I’ll watch the final and hope we win. Then immediately forget about it, as it’s not that precious for me ![](/icons/s/mrgreen.gif) |

amazing to see the passion of local allegiance so strong in this thread, but the obvious focus within it is England and football.
My take's a little different, as a Welshman, rugby's my favoured watch (screaming stereotype I know, sorry!) and it's Country over club every day of the week. Don't get me wrong, I love the grass roots game (my son plays) but if my club loses, well, hey-ho, we play again next week; but if Wales lose, it genuinely saddens me!
As fornfootball, the support for the national team is stronger than ever, I'd be interested to see which side of this Club/Country debate an avid (Welsh) football fan sits |

You have an emotional connection to your club, especially if it's your home town?
What connection do you have with a team you never watch?
Also I don't get how you can intensely dislike a player for 42 weeks in a season, and then support him because he pulls in a different shirt?
Thats without getting into all the nationalistic nonsense. |

It seems a strangely unique to football phenomenon that it doesn't seem possible to support one team without intensely disliking another team. Like dai above my sport is rugby... Its possible to support a team without being weighed down hating the other team and grudgingly admire the skill, talent and application of others. Good play is good play whoever it's by and is applauded. |

Possibly.. Not sure... It would be interesting... The word passion is thrown out..as an reason or excuse for players or managers behaviour or fans at times.. But I'm not sure supporters or players are any less passionate in other sports than in football.. They just seem to be able to support "for" a team without being "against" everyone else. Thankfully we are not all the same. Be boring if we were. |

"some good answers thank you to all that have replied looking at the answers theres a few that seem to have no interest at all or even a dislike of the national team why is that?
Always Club mate for me "
Haha yea im with you on this totally millwall week in week out but I do like a summer tournament when most of the country gets together like I say id give my right bollock if england win the euros this year haha |
