Hi girls I'm away to be put on estrogen patches to help with the dreaded menopause. Does anyone have any experience of this treatment and how did it go for you? X |

I don't have experience sorry,but I just wanted to say I thought my menopausal symptoms had settled down,but they've surfaced their ugly ahead again.

I've been experiencing very low moods and constant anxiety. I've been putting it down to losing my job and yes that certainly could be a factor. But got confirmation today I'm menopausal so it could be a mixture of both things.
At this point I'm willing to try anything. |

I didn’t have hrt, but had a coil, for heavy bleeding, and sailed through. I’m 58. Had it removed last year, after 5 years. I would certainly recommend it for anyone. But good luck in whatever you all decide. X |

The patches didn't work for me because they kept slipping off...it defends on your skin type
I'm now on tablet form & it's brill. No way was I going cold turkey with depleting estrogen...best of luck...I hope the patches work for you OP |

Gosh you are,my last period was about 2 year ago and my symptons had settled,but now I'm back to getting annoying but short thankfully hot flushes. |

I have HRT tablets - I was put into a medical menopause though prior to a total hysterectomy.
No experience of patches myself but a couple of my friends have them & have no issues.

my worry is how do they know what strength to give you, do they tell that by your blood test? X |

I have low moods too. I take starflower oil capsules from Holland and Barret. They seem to be working (I've used them for about 2 years). I haven't been to the doctors as I seem to be coping quite well with the perimenopause. Hope this helps x |

NBVN xdoes the gel absorb in the same way as the patches? Cause I was offered either x"
Gel gets absorbed through the skin, as does the patch contents.
I had patches for about a year but I really didn’t like them. When they were 24hrs before they were due to be changed they started to itch and burn a bit. They left really red areas behind and the sticky mark around the edge of them is a pain to remove.
They do a constant delivery of oestrogen though unlike the gel which gives you a big hit then the level decays away until you apply it again. I’ve just changed to putting half my gel on but twice daily.
I much prefer the gel over the patches. The patches came off at times, especially in the heat of passion. Twice I had guys who noticed the patch on my bum and peeled it off thinking I “had something stuck to me”
The pills are supposed to be good but your liver and kidneys have to process it and that’s not ideal. |

The gel isn't to be rubbed in, rather left to absorb in to your skin. You need to be careful for an hour after applying as others who may touch your skin could get an unwanted hit of estrogen. 
Sometimes it's fun to wind my bf up by telling him he could grow a boob on the palm of his hand if he touches me

That’s good to know about the coil, I had one fit 18 months ago for contraceptive reasons and she said it would probably see me through the menopause as I will be 53 when it’s due to be removed |

I can’t take them as I have multiple health conditions and possible heart condition (hospital investigations due to covid) - so I have to just suffer in silence according the the GP |

I’m also on HRT (for kinda different reasons) and I’m on patches (I wish we had injectables here in the U.K. but sadly they aren’t legal) I have noticed this myself! I used to feel riddled with general anxiety but since being on HRT, I’ve noticed I have like 0 latent anxiety going on. It’s brilliant. Obviously this is a great effect from them. |

Haha lovely!! It still makes me giggle that some guys tried to rip off the patch off u
And I agree that it is annoying to peel off the sticky mess once you need to remove the patch but overall I never had any issues with skin sensitivity or redness from them
What do you all use? I’m on Estradot 100, I tried climara but hated them. |

I was told I couldn't have hrt when I was peri but did have the mini pill which helped a bit.
I'm now, fingers crossed, post meno and will be speeking to the GP soon. My hot flushes have really calmed down and my mood is better. It's my skin and brain fog that is driving me mad. Fingers crossed I can get hrt but it might be bit of a battle, so reading comments with interest. |

You can go and see a private specialist.
Gps are not well trained in menopause generally.
Davina McCall did an interesting documentary recently, which is worth a watch. |
