To all the Middle Aged men out there who use moisturiser. Is it worth it?
I was looking in the mirror this morning and thinking I look wrecked. I have a very stressful job with a company who is aggressively expanding across Europe. I am constantly tired through late nights and early starts but still manage to eat well and exercise often.
Am I looking for a quick miracle fix or does moisturiser actually do something? |

Absolutely it's worth it. I moisturise, use undereye cream and after shave balm. Drinking plenty of water and not smoking also helps too! Nowt wrong with a bit moisturiser on a man, we have skin too! |

I wouldn't spend a fortune on moisturiser or anti aging products
I do moisturise though
I use Aveeno daily moisturising lotion. It's about £3.50 to £4.00 for 200ml and it lasts me a month to 6 weeks
I just slap it on my face & head after I've showered
Stops my skin feeling dry and I've not got too many crows feet lines for a bloke my age |

I started a few months ago, can't tell a difference, but hoping that it's 'laying the groundwork' for later years, plus I do enjoy the ritual aspect and feeling fresh
I dont shave, so I have this instead |

I'm not a middle aged man but I think everyone benefits from using a moisturiser that includes sun screen. When you wash your face you remove the good oil along with the dirt, moisturiser helps replace that. Sun exposure is the main cause of skin aging, sun screen helps reduce that.
Also it feels nice to take care of yourself. |

Bio oil (use ever other day or whenever you need it, it rehydrates tired looking skin) use a eye cream and moisturiser daily. Doesn’t have to be expensive either there’s some good ones out there just need to find what works for you.

Honestly, just because you're a man doesn't mean you shouldn't take good care of your skin. My partner drives me mad as he never takes care of his skin as he thinks it's pointless and I guess he doesn't like how feminine it feels which is ridiculous. But on the very rare occasion he does let me give him a facial, he's honestly glowing.
SPF is probably the best thing you can do for your face. I ?wear a moisturiser with SPF50 in every single day. It's going to protect your skin and prevent wrinkles etc.
I use one by Nivea and it's usually on half price offer for £6 if you have a look around. I'd recommend that to you as you'll get both your moisturiser and sun protection in one. It's called Nivea Sun UV Face and it's not sticky and leaves your skin feeling hydrated.
It's not going to work miracles and won't repair any damage that is already done but I promise it will improve your skin and that it is worth wearing.
Also, make sure you're drinking enough water and if your skin is very dry then a hyaluronic acid would be good but I understand this is all a little confusing when you're new to skincare.

"Every day and if i don't then after a couple of days it's noticeable.
Nobody ever guesses my real age in person and when they do its always younger
You're 83 aren't you? "
See, I told you everyone thinks I look younger than I am, only last week I turned 94 |

Bitumen and then magnolia emulsion to stop the bitumen showing through
I use L'Oréal, either a 45+ or something with collagen in it and often use both a day and night version of whichever one I got on offer each time.
It does work too and I can see when I've not used it |

I'll have to give the bitumen a go what's it's SPF rating |

I’m a skin care junkie but if I had to recommend one thing it would be sunscreen with an spf of 30 or more. There are loads of moisturisers out there that include it, one of my favourite is the Cera Ve factor 30 daily moisturiser. |

Not middle aged but moisturise everyday. Aveeno is my go-to and I also moisturise my hands befor bed every night as well to stop them going dry and cracking |

"Is there something about your skin that you feel makes it looked wrecked?
Know if I don't stick to my skin care routine it looks worse than when I do "
It’s always dry, blotchy and wrinkles are getting really pronounced. I have massive bags under my eyes permanently too.
Part of the problem I think is the sheer amount I sweat when I exercise because I’m at it for a few hours at a time. |

That's my kind of skin type also. I've found its what I wash my face with that's important. Try an oil based cleanser or something creamy not one that strips the face. |

If your outdoors a lot a sunscreen would help, I'm ourdoors more than in have noticed my skin defo needs more protection and nourishment.
I find nappy rash cream quiet usefull.
I also put moisturiser on my hands before putting gloves on. If your pretty manual dust, mud, metals really sucks the moisture out of your hands.
This is starting to sound a bit ooer mrs! Lol |

You might be onto something, normally I’d say I’m rarely out in the sun. But then I do run outside a lot and even when the sun isn’t blazing it could be affecting my skin in a harmful way. I am ginger with a fair few freckles too |

My partner moisturises head to toe every time he showers, he is black and does so to avoid his skin appearing ashy. He looks considerably younger than his 51 years.
He has the most amazing skin I’ve ever felt, and I can’t help but stroke it! |

I use to get awfully dry skin. No matter what cream I used. It made little or no difference. But once I changed my diet;reduced salt intake, fresh fruit and veg, ect, and suppliments like multi vitamins (only buy expensive types) and omega 3 fish oils. Solved my dry skin issue. |

Definitely works.
I use a good dot Norwegian formula Hand cream on your face every day (eyes, cheeks, forehead). It’s cheap and does the job. Ignore fashion moisturisers and fad creams - basically anything with an ingredients list that you can’t spell or don’t recognise.
Drink plenty of water and get decent sleep. |

Before anyone uses moisturiser, exfoliate get rid of all the dead skin and then use the cream it will sink into your layers of skin , not sit on top of the dead skin |

It works for me , I do it 2-3 times a week when I remember , like flossing and nail care it’s important to keep up but I’m not obsessed. I just use gorilla spf15 from the supermarket abd give my face a good massage at the same time. I go for the odd facial when I’m at Heathrow probably should do that more often |

As a woman who is actively dating men in their 40s I have to say: please moisturise. Ideally, travel 20 years into the past and start moisturising.
If you’re wondering if it’s worth it, look at women who have been moisturising for years. Do you think they spent all that time keeping themselves looking good only to hang on the arm of a man who looks like a thumb that’s been in the bath too long? |

I started to moisturise after shaving in my early 20’s. I was listening to the Capital Doctor with Anna Raeburn and she pointed out the importance but also to include your neck. She went on to say that your neck is a real give away as you age.
I look fucking gorgeous!
Who remembers the Capital doctor from I guess the early days of Capital radio? |

I don't but I'd say neck and chest are just as important as face, also hands. If I had my time again I'd use moisturiser with SPF 30 and above on my face, neck and chest all year round |

My skin is very dry, I've been moisturising my face every day since I was 30 and the rest of my body for the last 10 years.
My skin is very smooth and most people are 10 years out when guessing my age.
Lack of sleep and drinking alcohol doesn't help your skin. |
