I think there’s a few from previous forum threads, hopefully they’ll show up below ...

If you put "autism" in forum search, some not so old threads should pop up.

I prefer the term neuro different or neuro fabulous!

Dx 2 years ago as adhd combined... I suspect I have a nodding relationship with other spectrum elements.

But I'm just me, fabulously creative!

Hunter farmer and all that

Given how shockingly neurodiverse people are treated, I would completely understand if they were reluctant to admit it on here.

I have ASC *waves*

I have no problem being open about it and I've only once encountered negativity on here as a result.

Plenty of us here. It's all part of human diversity.

I've quite enjoyed lockdown. Each to their own but I've not missed the crowded rooms, the flashing lights and noise which we are expected to endure because, apparently, you can't have fun without sensory overload. There's a part of me that quite enjoys the discomfort of those who have tried to impose their version of a good time on those of us who find 'Party!' a word to dread.

I agree! Can't do small talk, it's mind numbingly boring!

Yes I do. I have a veritable plethora of what I like to call super powers.

Was diagnosed not so long ago a real watershed moment of relief and a fair bit of anger over how I have been treated for my differences in the past.

That's a spectrum. It's been borrowed by others but it's ours really!

I'd agree with the small talk bit for myself. I also see autistic spectrum traits within myself but I can't say if I am or not.

How long did everything take for you in the end?

I have been told I will be waiting for 9-12 months just for my Stage 1 assessment by the Adult Autism Service

The NHS took ages. So my employer arranged for me to have an SPLD assessment privately who then did the relevant referrals to the NHS which got things moving a lot quicker.

I know something is 'different' upstairs but I would like to get some sort of diagnosis apart from depression. I will be going down that route hopefully.

"We're all on the spectrum "

Says every doc or medical professional, anyone in education, with a raised eyebrow every time you bring up the subject that your kid perhaps needs the extra help a diagnosis may bring. Smack all your bums and get your damn pen out and fill in the forms will you.

"We're all on the spectrum "

No, it's a spectrum of autism, not a spectrum from neurotypical to autistic.

I can't do Wetherspoon's the acoustics are tooooooo much!

We don't need a club for sensory overload... a sunny bank holiday will do it!
