I thought if you've blocked somebody you then neither of you can contact each other. Blocking prevents both of you from seeing each others profile so you can't get to the button to send them a message. Am I wrong?

I read it that they didn’t let males contact them rather than they’d blocked a specific man.

If we have blocked males but we then contact a male can they see our profile and then reply."

If you've blocked an individual man but he hasn't blocked you, you can unblock him and message him.

If you've used message filters to prevent all men from being able to contact you, you can send one guy a message and he will be able to reply. Men will always have been able to see your profile though, unless you'd hidden it. Any men you'd been in contact with before you put the mail filter on will have very able to contact you too.

Sorry to be a bit thick but if we hide our profile but send a mail to someone then they can see your profile and reply.

Hiding your profile doesn't stop messages, the 2 functions are independent.

If your profile is hidden then it's hidden to everyone.
